Welcome!

Since 1967, The Salt River Police Department (SRPD) has delivered Police services to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). The SRPD has created an environment of ethical caring and well-trained team members who deliver professional Police services to all persons within the 96 square miles of residential, agricultural and commercial lands. On any given day, there are approximately 650,000 persons conducting business, enjoying entertainment venues and traveling within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, all attracted by the numerous commercial businesses, shopping malls, Talking Stick Resort, Casino Arizona, Salt River Fields Major League Baseball stadium (spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies), Pavilions Shopping Mall, Arizona Boardwalk, USS Arizona Memorial Gardens, Salt River Auto Show, Scottsdale Community College, several major freeways and our recreational lands.

The SRPD investigates all Tribal, State and Federal crimes, presents these investigations to Tribal, State and Federal Prosecutors and testifies in Tribal, State and Federal Courts. All Police Officers are Tribally sworn, State sworn (AZPOST certified) and Federally sworn (receive a special Law Enforcement Officer commission/certification through the Bureau of Indian Affairs to investigate Federal crimes). Calls for service (about 50,000 per year), combined with the geographical area, 195 miles of roadway, 18 miles of three (3) major state routes (the average daily traffic count on the SR 101 “Pima Freeway” is 175,000 vehicles; average daily count on the SR 202 “Red Mountain Freeway” is 135,000 vehicles and the average daily count on the SR 87 “Beeline Highway” is 35,000 vehicles) and a Community Policing philosophy require a diverse array of activities to deliver police services to the public. The variety of calls for service includes criminal, traffic, civil, animal and public assistance calls.

On July 15, 2020, the Salt River Police Department (SRPD) received from the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP) Full Accreditation, becoming the fifth Police Department out of 140 in the State of Arizona, to achieve this level of Certification.

On December 1, 2020, the SRPD met all DOJ Standards for Certification on Safe Policing for Safe Communities and received our DOJ Standards for Certification on Safe Policing for Safe Communities.

There are currently 215 team members, consisting of 160 sworn Police Officers and 55 non-sworn team member professionals, who form the Salt River Police Department. Our team takes very special pride in delivering innovative educational and enforcement services with personal excellence, respect for the Community and for all those who live, work and visit the Community.
