Data-driven market design for India’s e-National Agriculture Market

PROJECT DETAILS

Data-driven market design for India’s e-National Agriculture Market to improve market efficiency and farmer welfare

We will develop a data-driven approach integrating empirical analysis, mathematical models, and field experiments to improve the design of India’s e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) to improve market efficiency and farmers’ welfare.

The e-NAM was recently set up in India to integrate fragmented local wholesale agricultural markets through an online trading platform, intended to improve farmers’ welfare with healthier market competition and transparent market information. However, participation in e-NAM remains low due to uncertainties in product quality and online trader volume.

We will employ both empirical and analytical methods to prescribe effective government strategies and market design for successful e-NAM adoption.
