Podere Sapaio is located in the Bolgheri wine zone of the Maremma, a territory that runs parallel to the Tuscan coast in the province of Livorno and which is named after the town of Bolgheri.

The owner of Podere Sapaio, Massimo Piccin, purchased the estate in 1999 and planted his vineyards one year later.

Their first vintage in 2004 was readily described as “excellent, a prelude of things to come.” An admirable accomplishment for such young vines. Though relatively new on the Bolgheri wine scene, Massimo and his consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini quickly cultivated a devoted following with their wines, which, in true Bolgheri fashion, show a great ability to age for a decade or more.

One of the fundamental points of the Sapaio philosophy is respect for the land and a sustainable approach that effectively combines technology and tradition.

Podere Sapaio produces some the top rated wine in the world.
