DoD ManTech Recognizes Space Day 2024 #DYK: May 3 was National Space Day. It annually commemorates the launch of the first American satellite, Explorer 1, and celebrates the accomplishments and promise of space exploration. National Space Day is designed to promote interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, and inspire the next generation of space explorers. The Manufacturing Education and Workforce Development team celebrates and encourages space innovators not just on National Space Day, but every day, in support of the students who will work across the defense industry. One way ManTech supports manufacturing education is through our partnership with LIFT, the Advanced Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and their LIFT Learning Lab, where students receive STEM-based instructions through various in-depth robotics, automation, and technician-based trainings and advanced technology curriculums. ManTech hopes National Space Day will continue inspiring students interested in STEM education to explore all fields of science, math, and engineering fields, to one day become leaders in rewarding, long-term, in-demand careers. The manufacturing sector is challenged with a projected 3.8 million net new jobs that need to be filled by 2033. Our #NIIMBLeXperience program aims to expand and strengthen #biopharma talent pipelines by introducing underrepresented populations the industry. A recent Manufacturing USA story highlights the work of our fellow institutes to develop programs to reach underserved populations that can be scaled to have national impact. CESMII has partnered with The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to offer a Smart Manufacturing Certification in order to reach the local Hispanic population and grow the local smart manufacturing talent pool. PowerAmerica is helping provide solar and renewable energy workforce and professional training opportunities nationwide to underserved populations. They have trained students from 16 Native American Tribes and 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). AIM Photonics has an internship program where it partners with HBCUs and other minority-serving institutions to bring students to the institute’s Albany NanoTech Complex for 12 weeks. CyManII | Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute I, the cybersecurity manufacturing innovation institute, has a Mobile Training Vehicle (MTV) that goes to local San Antonio high schools to work with primarily Hispanic students on cybersecurity training and e-sports competitions. LIFT, the institute dedicated to advanced materials, has a state-of-the-art 6,500-square foot immersive Learning Lab at its headquarters near downtown Detroit that prepares many African-American students for the most in-demand manufacturing careers. #AdvancedManufacturing #MFGUSA #Workforce https://lnkd.in/ePjzy6DY
