Communications Cable, Conduit Installation in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties

WILMINGTON –  Beginning Monday, the N.C. Department of Transportation will work in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties to improve services at the Traffic Operations Center in Castle Hayne.

The installation of communications cable and conduit along the Interstate 140 corridor will allow NCDOT Traffic Services to monitor, maintain, and assist traffic along the interstate. Closed circuit cameras and message boards will also be linked to the Traffic Operations Center in Castle Hayne.

To safely do this work, crews will have intermittent lane closures, rotating east and westbound, on I-140 between U.S. 17 Business and I-40, which is approximately nine miles.

The lane closures will begin Feb. 4 and last through May 31. In hopes of a minimal impact on traffic, weekday closures will be restricted to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but some lane closures will happen on the weekend.

While there will not be a detour in place, drivers are urged to use alternate routes to avoid crews and potential congestion.
