If it’s one thing Mxmtoon and Alexander 23 have in common, it’s that they’re wildly relatable, even if they’re performing across the country in a sold-out North American tour.
The two artists brought their joint effort to Los Angeles’ Roxy Theatre on Saturday night (Sept. 28), with a crowd full of teenagers that have been following Oakland native Mxmtoon’s viral videos on TikTok for months.
To kick off the night, Alexander 23 kept it refreshingly simple as a one-man-band playing his electric guitar. The crooner is relatively new to the music industry, and has a just handful of singles, but the roaring crowd knew every word. A stand out moment was his rendition of “Dirty AF1s,” during which the audience members all knew to wear their Nike classics to the show and hold up an Air Force 1 in support of the heartbreaking lyrics.
Though his songs are melancholy, Alexander 23 kept the energy high with uptempo beats and guitar solos, all complete with an unfading smile from the singer. He continued to lift spirits with a fun cover of Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA,” which was met with cheers and, as expected, the audience nodding their heads like yeah, moving their hips like yeah.

18-year-old Mxmtoon then took the stage, joined by her TikTok-famous ukulele and songs off her debut album, The Masquerade, that quite literally define her generation’s struggles as they navigate through young adulthood.
The hour-and-a-half long set (below) was complete with the songstress’ sincere, airy vocals and anecdotes about life. “Raise your hand if you’ve felt like you loved someone or liked someone and have never done anything about it,” she asked the crowd, who all felt the same way. “Well, we’re all in the same boat because I think that happens to everybody. But, I write a lot of songs about that.”
Mxmtoon will continue touring throughout the fall, with a list of dates found here. Check out her set list below.
