The VT Helmet Lab is launching Equestrian Helmet Research. Over 30 million people in USA ride a horse each year and this contributes to 50,000 injuries annually. Most of them are head injures. So Pony Up and help us and Equestrian industry improve safety!
The VT Helmet Lab is known for Helmet Ratings for Varsity Football, Hockey, Cycling, and Soccer. We also test soft headgear for Soccer and Flag Football. Youth Football Helmet Ratings were just released and we are now actively pursuing research and testing in the Equestrian helmet industry. Please help us by spreading the word and contributing to our research agenda!
With your support we will purchase equestrian helmets and test them in our Helmet Lab. We will use the impact tests to develop a STAR rating for each equestrian helmet and post them on our web page: www.vt.edu/helmet. The testing should take approximately 6 months, and you will be able to use these findings to inform your decision when buying your next equestrian helmet.
