Still Unequal, Still Unfair: An Update on New Jersey’s Marijuana Arrests

Previously, the ACLU-NJ took a deep dive into New Jersey’s 2013 marijuana arrest numbers. The report found a significant Black to white racial disparity in arrest rates, as Black people in New Jersey were three times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than white people, despite similar usage rates. Updated data from 2017 has been released and show an increase in the total number of arrests.
