BALTIMORE – As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District continues working with local, state and federal partners to clear the wreckage along the Fort McHenry Channel following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, engineers have determined a tentative timeline for the restoration for safe navigation in and out of the Port of Baltimore.

In a significant meeting held on March 17, at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, U.S. Army Col. Mohammed Z. Rahman, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Transatlantic Expeditionary District commander, and Viet Nguyen, Expeditionary District deputy district engineer, engaged in strategic discussions with The U.S. Ambassador and the Economic Counselor from the American Embassy in Kuwait. The engagement centered around enhancing the role of USACE in the context of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, PGII, and its implications for U.S. and allied economic and national security interests.

Often, these original components were fabricated using vintage material and manufacturing methods, making them costly, burdensome and time-consuming to replace. Responding to this need, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is employing cutting-edge 3D-printing techniques to manufacture these parts faster and at a lower cost while maintaining, and even improving, their properties.

COLUMBIA & SNAKE RIVERS, Ore. & Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District reopened navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers on March 29 after an eleven-week outage. This extended outage allowed the district to perform routine maintenance and to replace aged equipment to reduce the risk of asset failure.

With an abundance of tail wags, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District (FED) welcomed comfort dogs to spend time with its employees as part of a wellness initiative on March 20, 2024, at Camp Humphreys. To support Soldiers and civilians in wellness and resiliency, the American Red Cross Animal Visitation Program (AVP) brings dogs to workplaces to interact with personnel and offer healing and comfort. These dogs are American Kennel Club (AKC) certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC) dogs that have been approved to volunteer at various installations across the peninsula.
