European Commission to Push 2020 Ban on Insecticide Chlorpyrifos

The European Commission will begin a process in September to ban the insecticide chlorpyrifos commonly used by vegetable and citrus farmers in Europe and sold by the U.S. multinational Corteva Inc.

An Aug. 2 finding by the European Food Safety Authority identifying human health concerns associated with exposure to chlorpyrifos will be used to deny the renewal license for the insecticide by Jan. 31, 2020, a European Commission spokesperson said.
