2020 Presidential Candidate Beto O'Rourke's response

Jul 3, 2019

Thanks to your signatures, Taylor Swift's petition calling for the passage of the Equality Act has gotten official responses from multiple U.S. Senators. Now, other 2020 presidential candidates want you to know what they think about protecting LGBTQ+ citizens with this critical legislation. Here's what candidate Beto O'Rourke has to say:

"LGBTQ+ Americans have made incredible progress over the past decade, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of activists and advocates—but too many people still lack legal protections and are discriminated against for how they identify or who they love. As president, I will fight to ensure all Americans are treated equally by signing into law the Equality Act, a bill I co-sponsored in Congress that provides consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people across key areas of life. I will continue to work as I’ve done throughout my career to ensure proper legal protections for everyone - regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Thank you to everyone who supported this petition. Together, we can ensure the Equality Act is signed into law!"
