You’d hope a new-build home came pretty much pristine when you move in, but one man claimed he found ‘more than 100 problems’ in four months.

David Humphreys, 29, says the issue has become ‘beyond a joke’.

He moved into the home in Market Weighton, east Yorkshire, hoping it would be the perfect home for his young family.

But he says he has been left fearing for their safety due to the catalogue of issues.

Mr Humphreys, his wife and three children moved into the new property in Chapman Drive, which is part of Linden Homes’ Bradley Fields development, but says he regrets ever purchasing the home.

He claims to have found an electricity cable that was simply ‘taped over’ raising fears that it could cause an ‘electric shock’, as well as brickwork in a ‘terrible state’ and drainage pipes that did not connect up.

However, Linden Homes claim the issues are just ‘minor faults that have appeared during the snagging and defects period’ and says it is in discussions with Mr Humphreys to fix two remaining issues.

Father-of-three Mr Humphreys said: ‘It’s in a very poor standard. Very poor. It was supposed to be our first family home.

‘We understand that buying a house is stressful but this is beyond a joke. It’s just one big headache.’

Mr Humphreys, who is a project engineer in the construction industry, has called on other home buyers to make sure they get potential new properties
checked thoroughly before moving in.

He moved in just four months ago with his one-year-old twins and three-year-old and says the amount of problems he has come across is unacceptable.

Detailing some of the issues he has faced, Mr Humphreys said: ‘They installed a drain at the front of the drive and it just didn’t go anywhere. It just filled up and went into the middle of the road.’

He also claims that the damp course was not installed to the correct specification, damp air was being diverted into the loft and that there were issues with the brickwork at the home.

‘There was no ducting installed between the ventilation tile and the extractor fan in the en suite, therefore until we realised we were extracting the hot damp air straight into the insulation and loft space – if this wasn’t found we’d have had massive damp issues in the loft space.

‘I dare say, I can’t believe I’m the only one having issues.’

In response, Mark Connors, managing director for Linden Homes in East Yorkshire, said: ‘We pride ourselves on the quality of our homes and our customer care, so we are disappointed to hear that Mr Humphreys is unhappy with the service offered to him.

‘Since these issues were brought to our attention, our dedicated customer care team has been in regular contact with Mr Humphreys, and has been working hard to rectify the minor faults that have appeared during the snagging and defects period.

‘Two items now remain outstanding, and we are in contact with Mr Humphreys to find a convenient time to carry out these outstanding defects, under the conditions of his warranty.’
