FAQ

  • What qualifies as a travel video?
A travel video is a short film that defines a destination, highlights single or multiple locations, shows off local culture and inspires the viewer to travel.
  • But my doc is about turtle racing in Argentina, does that count?
Videos just about turtle racing wouldn’t count. But if it uses a story about turtles as a lens to view the community and location tied to that sport and in a way that inspires travel, that counts. We can also reassign nominees if the video would be better suited for another category. Please remember that this year both Independent and Industry Track videos can be submitted across multiple categories within their tracks, where appropriate.
  • So what category do I submit under?
If you aren’t sure, contact us at thetvas@citizine.tv. One of our staff members will help you.
  • I’m an indie filmmaker.  My film received donations from brands to support our travel, can I still submit as an independent film?
Depends. Our purpose is to support those filmmakers who self-financed their own films for the love of travel and story. Films mostly supported by brands or if you were paid by a brand should be submitted under the Industry track under the appropriate brand group. Films with multiple sponsors can be submitted across multiple brand categories. It’s a great way to show your sponsors some love and potentially receive recognition for everyone involved. So if you were paid by a brand or if your film is based primarily on a donation you received from a brand, then that film is considered branded, i.e. a travel experience, hotel review, destination review, a tour or a vehicle that is showcased throughout your road trip and is your primary means of travel on the trip. Hence, any donation from a brand or combination of brands with a value in excess of $2,000 dollars, will categorize it as a branded film. Hey, they believed in your vision, too!
  • We’re a travel brand, can we submit across multiple categories?
This year, yes!  As a brand you can submit multiple videos to your respective industry category.  However, you can also submit a video into this year’s new Special Categories – (1) Culinary Video/Series and (2) Adventure Travel Video/Series. For example, if you’re an airline that created a video that showcased adventure travel and culinary destinations, you could submit it into the Airline category as well as the Adventure Travel and Culinary categories for consideration. Brand videos, regardless of their format, should be submitted in the category for your brand. For example, if you are a magazine, submit the video under “Media Company.” If you are a B&B, home sharing brand or hotel, etc., submit your video under “Hospitality.”  If you are a restaurant, apparel company, auto brand, spirits brand, sportswear or travel gear company, etc., submit under “Lifestyle Brand,” and so forth. Separately, you may submit multiple travel advertisement videos to the Best Travel Video Advertisement category (see following questions for details) Please do not submit Travel Video Advertisements to the Branded Video categories.
  • What qualifies a Travel Video Advertisement?
The Travel Video Advertisement category is industry agnostic. Only travel video advertisements up to 2 minutes in length that have appeared on TV or digital platforms during 2019 may be submitted. In the rare case that you have an advertisement, and not a branded video, that’s longer than :90 seconds, please contact thetravelvideoawards@citizine.tv with a link to the advertisement, in order to be considered in this category.
  • What’s the difference between a branded travel video and an advertisement?
Branded travel video formats include influencer supported videos, sponsored videos of various storytelling formats intended to raise brand awareness (i.e. documentaries, profile pieces, narrative fiction stories, etc.), and any other video type available for public consumption intended to inspire exploration and interaction with your brand that’s not an advertisement.
The TVAs qualify Travel Video Advertisements as short paid videos with a total runtime of :90 seconds or less presented with the intention to engage the audience in the use or purchase of a product from your brand.
  • If I am nominated for a category, can I announce the nomination to my audience?
Yes. Nominees are encouraged to announce their nomination, as each nominee will have the opportunity to win the Audience Award via the audience voting process.
  • How will my video(s) be evaluated?
Videos will be evaluated based on the category criteria by the panel of jurors.
  • I submitted a video for consideration, but would like to withdraw from the competition. How can I do this?
Send an email to thetvas@citizine.tv with your name, video URL, and reason why you would like to withdraw.  Please be aware that there will be no refund of the submission fee that you were charged at the time of entry.
  • Where can I see the complete details about the competition?
You can find the official rules here.
