Dr. Murphey is the Associate Dean for Nursing, Chief Nurse Administrator, and Professor of Nursing at Texas A&M College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She has diverse leadership experience within academia and professional organizations, has obtained professional executive leadership development as an American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Leadership and Academic Leadership Fellow, and is certified in Effective College Instruction by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) and American Council in Education (ACE). As Associate Dean for Nursing and Chief Nurse Administrator she leads and Nursing Programs in the college, supports the academic operations (academic affairs) of the Nursing programs, provides leadership to facilitate the development of degree programs and courses, provides effective leadership to the Nursing programs in achieving the mission, vision, and expected learning program outcomes.

Dr. Murphey is a certified obstetric nurse with over 20 years of nursing experience that includes specialty practice as a high-risk obstetric nurse, nurse manager, clinician educator, academic nurse educator, teacher, administrator, and researcher. Dr. Murphey ’s scholarship and research interest are focused on perinatal health promotion, maternal psychological distress, mental health, social determinants, and biobehavioral aspects of maternal health. Currently, she serves as Co-PI with an interdisciplinary team on the funded HRSA Research project entitled CHAMPions (Community Hands Advancing Maternal Health Promotion Program) team to develop nurse led interventions. In addition, she serves on the 17-member multidisciplinary TXDSHS Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee (MMMRC). In addition to peer-reviewed publications with faculty and doctoral students she has presented at numerous conferences, workshops, and special events.

Dr. Murphey earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Health Care Systems and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science from The University of Texas at Austin. She has advanced graduate education in Molecular Genetics in Research, Health, and Society from Georgetown University and as a Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR) Summer Genetics Institute.
