Hippodrome Unlocked is our ambition to become the most accessible venue of our scale in the UK. Key to this are collaborations with communities in under-served areas, increasing opportunities for young people to discover and develop their creative talents, confidence and leadership skills.

    Situation

Birmingham is Europe’s youngest city and one of UK’s most diverse, with 40% of population under 25. In a world rebuilding from health, economic and social justice impacts amplified by the pandemic, 30% of Birmingham’s children live in poverty, opportunities are not equally accessible to all. Hippodrome Unlocked will remove financial barriers + increase opportunities for Young People to develop creative talents, confidence and leadership skills in their communities at their city’s largest theatre

    Solution

Working collaboratively with existing partners in our city’s most under-served communities, we will support 50 young people to experience 10 creative workshops in their area and at the Hippodrome, enjoy world class performances. Young people will then co-design + deliver 4 events reaching a further 150 young people within their own + neighbouring communities. We will then support them to engage with existing Hippodrome programmes + fundraise for further co-designed activity in their communities
