When I first began my photography journey over a decade ago, it was exciting to step into an unknown world. I photographed all sorts of subjects: cars, portraits, cities; experimented with long-exposure, natural vs studio lighting. Photography is an expensive hobby and I met with another photographer to purchase one of his lens he listed for sale. I was bewildered to hear from him that he was looking to sell all his gear and give up photography as a hobby. Fast forward to today, I think I can now understand where that other photographer was on his journey. Priorities shift and sometimes we have difficult decisions to make. Life is rarely so polished that we may see in others or online. While I continue to ponder if it is time for me to hang up my photography hat, I have to be better about reminding myself to break away from my day-to-day periodically and experience something different. I’m extremely grateful I had the opportunity to attend the Yokohama Tire Geolandar A/T4 Launch Event earlier this week in Texas. It allowed me to be around other photographers and creatives that wanted to capture and share the experience we had through our craft. I was able to experiment with new techniques and gear I don’t normally have the chance to at my 9-to-5. I wasn’t thinking about what corners I would have to cut to make deadlines. All I focused on was improving my photography and to show how fun and beautiful it could be to drive 5 mph or less through a Texas landscape.
