Tech Stack Tuesday

On an ongoing basis, I want to capture the latest in the tools, services and best practices to highlight the real-world examples of AI deployment on the IT/DevOps/SysOps/MLOps technology stack.

Are you leveraging innovative, AI-powered vendor solutions? Reach out and share your tech stack details. Vendors can highlight successes, their potential customers gain real-world use insights to inform purchase decisions and job seekers understand the skills needed to thrive at your company. Whether it's DevOps, AI or other domains, nitty-gritty details on how you've combined technologies can spark new opportunities for all involved. This week we heard from Exact Payments:

"Exact Payments has successfully used AI tools as part of our software coding and design processes as well as our quality assurance efforts. For example, GitHub Copilot helps us write bug-free code and suggests design patterns in the software so that our code is modular and extensible.

Similarly, AI tools like the popular ChatGPT help generate test cases to ensure we identify all testing angles. From development to QA and release, this new breed of AI tools allows our team to produce clean code faster, resulting in a better-quality product.

Looking to the future, we also see AI helping us detect fraud at both the transactional level and the merchant level. Even before we run a transaction for authorization, we would use an AI-driven fraud detection platform to predict the likelihood of a fraudulent transaction, allowing us to preemptively address fraud before it happens — delivering better experiences for our merchants.

Likewise, we see AI helping us attain more high-fidelity information to determine the amount of risk a merchant poses as we consider onboarding them for a new processing account.

Ultimately, we see many applications of AI across departments and will continue to experiment with new ways it can make our business more efficient.
"

Other items VB is paying attention to today:

1️⃣ The United States Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Twitter account was hacked to falsely announce the approval of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), according to The Register. The fake tweet caused cryptocurrency prices to spike then drop when denounced as inaccurate by the SEC chairman via Twitter. (Source: The Register)

2️⃣ a16z has invested in Quora's chatbot creator platform Poe, which aims to make AI more accessible and useful by allowing users to interact with multiple models through one interface and enables creators to easily build and monetize customized AI applications using existing models - seeking to unleash creativity in the long tail through tools akin to what Roblox did for gaming. (Source: Andreesen Horowitz)

3️⃣ Apple is avoiding labeling its soon-to-be-released high-tech glasses Vision Pro as "VR/AR/MR" and is instead pushing the term "spatial computing." But this jargony term risks confusing customers about the product's purpose and the lack of concrete explanations in its marketing raise questions about whether Apple fully understands how to communicate what Vision Pro is and why people would want it. (Source: Business Insider)

4️⃣ Ralph Nader's public interest group Public Citizen has called on the California Attorney General to investigate whether OpenAI continues to operate as a bona fide nonprofit, citing concerns that, after recent leadership turmoil, the nonprofit may have come under control of its for-profit affiliate, compromising its mission. If so, Public Citizen argues the AG should dissolve OpenAI and ensure its substantial assets continue benefiting the public as required by law. (Source: Public Citizen)

5️⃣ Fox Corporation has publicly debuted a new blockchain platform called Verify aimed at helping media companies track how their content is used online, as the media giant plans to leverage the technology to negotiate licensing deals for its vast library of intellectual property with AI companies training large language models. Verify uses blockchain and cryptography to establish an immutable record of media content ownership and licensing, allowing Fox and other registered publishers to verify their works, grant rights to AI firms and potentially receive micro-payments when contents are displayed; Fox has been piloting the platform internally and has verified more than 80,000 pieces of content so far.
