Opera In The Park

Free Screenings from our 2022 Season – Carmen and The Barber of Seville

The Santa Fe Opera is proud to announce free “Opera in the Park” screenings of Carmen and The Barber of Seville to take place at SWAN Park in Santa Fe and at the Civic Plaza in Albuquerque. These events are part of the opera’s ongoing commitment to bring the joy of opera to all New Mexicans. The opera invites attendees to bring a picnic and enjoy the show.

Santa Fe Schedule

SWAN Park

Entertainment by local artists will begin at 5:30 PM, and the opera screening will begin at 6 PM.
There will be no intermission. Doors open at 5 PM.

Saturday, September 17 – Bizet’s Carmen (approximate run time is 2 hours 20 minutes)
Sunday, September 18 – Rossini’s The Barber of Seville (approximate run time 2 hours 31 minutes)

How do I sign up?
No registration is required! The Opera in the Park events are free to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage anyone who is feeling unwell not to attend a performance.

Weather
Opera in the Park will proceed rain or shine. However, under adverse weather conditions such as (but not limited to): lightning, high wind, or torrential rain or hail, we may cancel the event, if necessary.

Bathrooms
Portable restrooms and a hand washing station will be available on site.

Sight & Sound
Two, 300-square foot LED walls will provide attendees with a state-of-the-art viewing experience, while sound will be broadcast via outdoor speakers. Spanish subtitle translations will be provided.

Parking
Directional parking will be provided.

SWAN Park is located off Jaguar Drive and Veterans Memorial Highway 599.

What Should I Bring?
Seating is limited. Guests are encouraged to bring their own portable seats, blankets and lawn chairs.

Food & Beverage

We encourage guests to bring a picnic or choose from food trucks at the event.

If you plan to bring your own picnic, please plan accordingly:

  • Bring a blanket or cloth camping chair; no metal chairs are permitted.
  • No glass containers of any kind
  • No alcohol is permitted at the event
  • Plastic utensils only – metal forks and knives are not allowed on site
  • No coolers
  • No large umbrellas; small folding umbrellas only
  • No tables or tents

Pets
No pets are allowed, except for registered service animals.

Are the screenings suitable for children?

The operas will be presented on a large-scale, professional projection system and sound will be broadcast via outdoor speakers. Spanish subtitle translations will be provided.

Parking
Parking is available at the city-operated Convention Center Garage located on Martin Luther King Blvd. and Broadway or at the city-operated Civic Plaza Garage on Marquette and 3rd Street. Event parking in these garages is $6.00 per vehicle without in/out privileges.

There are also numerous other public parking garages and lots available throughout the area surrounding the Center. Parking fees will vary. Please refer to the posted parking fees at each garage or lot.

Food & Beverage
Concessions will be available on-site and we ask that you do not bring outside food & drink into Civic Plaza. Alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
