GLVC Soccer Championship Tournaments to Be Played on Campus at Lindenwood
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic postponing fall sports, the 2020-21 GLVC Men's and Women's Soccer Championship Tournaments will be held April 23 and 25 at Hunter Stadium on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, rather than in early November at a neutral site. This year's event marks the fifth-straight season both the men's and women's tournaments have been played at the same site, while the previous four were held at neutral locations with the first two in 2016 and 2017 at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the last two events in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the Woehrle Athletic Complex.
Tournament action opens on Monday, April 19 with quarterfinal matches held on the campuses of the top-four seeds.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance in their respective tournaments and compete in the semifinal contests on Friday, April 23.
The 2020-21 GLVC Championship Tournament finals will take place Sunday, April 25.
This season marks the 42nd year of the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. Southern Indiana has won the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship a record 10 times with the Eagles last title coming in 1991. Lewis has earned eight titles, Rockhurst has captured six crowns, former GLVC member Northern Kentucky earned five, and former league member SIU Edwardsville follows with four titles. Indianapolis owns two overall, while Drury, Quincy, Maryville and former Conference members IPFW, Bellarmine, and UW-Parkside have each claimed one league crown.
Last year, No. 2 seed Bellarmine battled 1-seed McKendree to a 3-2 win in capturing their first and last league crown, as the Knights resigned as members to reclassify to Division I.
This season marks the 27th year of the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Former GLVC members Northern Kentucky and UW-Parkside lead the Conference with seven and five league titles, respectively, followed by McKendree, Quincy and another former member Saint Joseph's with two each. Six schools have claimed one GLVC Championship apiece, including Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Lewis, Rockhurst, Southern Indiana, and Truman State.
Last year, No. 7 seed Southern Indiana earned its first-ever GLVC crown with a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw through double overtime against top-seeded McKendree.
All games from Hunter Stadium will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network at GLVCSN.com, on Android and iOS mobile apps, as well as OTT apps via AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV. GLVCSN quarterfinal coverage from campus will be announced the week of the tournament.
