They The People: Accurate Gender Markers for All

Trans, intersex, and non-binary people belong, and we need IDs that accurately reflect who we are so we can travel, apply for jobs, and enter public establishments without risk of harassment or harm. The ACLU and thousands of supporters asked the Biden-Harris administration to make it easier for trans and non-binary people to have accurate IDs. And on June 30, 2021, the State Department announced they are removing the medical documentation requirement for updating the sex designation on passports, meaning applicants can self-select the appropriate marker, and they will add an X designation soon. Now let’s make sure they improve the gender change process across the whole federal government.
