You can’t keep “The Goonies” down. Though the Oregon-filmed movie came out in 1985, it remains a favorite among many fans, and each year, draws tourists to Astoria, where much of the movie was shot on location. Now, entertainment sites are reporting that we may see a TV series about three kids who have a dream of doing a shot-for-shot remake of “The Goonies,” and the teacher who agrees to help them.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Fox network has ordered a pilot for the as-yet untitled drama, which focuses on a woman who leaves New York under a cloud, and goes back to her hometown to work as a substitute teacher. Once there, she is inspired by the dedication of students who have a dream to remake their beloved movie, “The Goonies.”
The pilot will reportedly be directed by Greg Mottola (whose credits include “Superbad” and “Adventureland”), and be written by Sarah Watson (whose credits include “The Bold Type”).
The original “The Goonies” movie was the story of kids who lived in a not-too-affluent area of Astoria, who go on a treasure hunt that involves them with a family mixed up in crime, a pirate ship, a dangerous adventure, and a crusade to try and save their homes.
The cast included Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton and Jonathan Ke Huy Quan.
“The Goonies” is among the movies that filmed in Oregon to receive recognition with signs that are part of the Oregon Film Trail project, which marks notable locations associated with movie production in Oregon.
