Tax Filing Season Opening Two Weeks Earlier, Now is the Time for Small Business Owners to Gather Documents, Review Tax Obligations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the news from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) there may be delays in processing 2021 tax returns and in response opening of the tax season two weeks earlier on January 24thKeith Hall, president and CEO of the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community, today offered the following advice for the American public and the nation’s small business community in filing this year’s tax returns on time:

“With delays expected in processing this year’s tax returns, including any potential refunds, the number one thing the American public and small businesses can do is prepare now,” saidKeith Hall, president and CEO of the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community. “This week the IRS announced the official start date of the tax season has been moved up by two weeks to January 24th to try and head off the potential for even greater delays.  Given these announcements, it’s even more important this year for small business owners to start early with gathering documents, reviewing updates and tax obligations.  Recent changes to the tax code are continuing to be made and those updates could likely have an impact on a lot of tax filers’ bottom-line budgets. Being prepared will help ensure your return is filed on time and without delay.”

The tax filing date this year is Monday, April 18th, 2022.

“Remember, you are not alone and there are resources out there for help, including NASE.org, IRS.gov and SBA.gov, where information and assistance are readily available. If possible, you should file your 2021 tax return as soon as you can so there is not any more delay in receiving any refunds,” concluded Hall.
