Accounting Educator Awards

The AICPA facilitates and bestows the following awards to recognize outstanding curriculum and achievement as academic stewards to the accounting profession.

EDGE in Teaching Awards (formerly Effective Learning Strategies Curriculum Awards)

Accounting educators play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the accounting profession, and recognizing their contributions is essential to maintaining a strong and skilled accounting pipeline. The EDGE in Teaching Awards honors the excellence and dedication of accounting educators across the nation. We encourage accounting faculty to submit their most innovative accounting course teaching techniques for the opportunity to earn an award.

Bea Sanders/AICPA EDGE in Teaching Award in an Introductory Course

The intent of this award is to both recognize and disseminate successful leading-edge exceptional teaching practices in the first course sequence in accounting (freshmen, sophomore, and community college) that entice a student’s interest in accounting and encourages them to pursue the CPA profession as a career.

George Krull/Grant Thornton EDGE in Teaching Award in a Junior or Senior Level Course

The intent of this award is to both recognize and disseminate successful leading-edge practices in the teaching of junior- or and senior-level accounting courses that continue to enhance accounting majors’ interest in accounting and to encourage them to pursue the CPA profession as a career.

The winner(s) in both award categories are expected to present their work at the American Accounting Association Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting (CTLA) and will have the opportunity to present at AAA Annual Meeting. The winner(s) will receive an award, a certificate, and a monetary prize totaling $5,000. If warranted, up to two (2) submissions could be selected for honorable mention and be awarded $500 each. Additionally, the winning lessons/materials are made available for download to educators registered on ThisWayToCPA.com through the Academic Resource Database.

The application period for these awards will open December 1, 2023.
