Two for the Road is a series in which two artists touring together chat about playing shows, life backstage, and more. In the first video installment of the series, Lord Huron and Allison Ponthier join us from the road to talk musical inspirations and songwriting techniques.
LA indie rockers Lord Huron have only just begun their fall tour in support of this year’s Long Lost album, but they’re settling back into the swing of live shows with ease. This time, however, they’ve brought a special opener on tour: Allison Ponthier, a brilliant rising songwriter from Texas with an affinity for country-inflected pop.
The two artists overlap a great deal in sound, with Lord Huron’s folk-like intrigue and Ponthier’s organic and vulnerable approach. They also have a lot in common personally — except for the fact that Lord Huron’s Ben Schneider hasn’t seen Twilight, which dedicated Twihard Ponthier claims is a “cultural thing.”
While Lord Huron have nearly perfected their enigmatic live shows for a decade, Ponthier is joining them on her first tour ever. The choice to bring Ponthier along was easy, as the two collaborated this year on the lovely “I Lied” off of Long Lost. But Ponthier is no amateur, and the songs on last month’s Faking My Own Death EP suggest that she’s ready for the biggest stages.
