Maryland MOTORS (Motor Officers Teaching Others Riders Safety) provides training for motorcyclists. Operated by Maryland State and local law enforcement agencies, our goal is to provide education for all motorcyclists to keep everyone safe on our roads.

Each Maryland MOTORS class includes a morning and afternoon session.

Classes are limited to 16 participants with an instruction ratio of 1 motor officer per 2 riders.

Class Requirements
Maryland MOTORS requires the following items to be brought to your class.
- Properly registered, street-legal motorcycle
- Eye Protection
- Legal helmet
- Long sleeve shirt (recommended)
- Long pants
- Full-fingered gloves
- Over-the-ankle foot protection
- Rain gear (recommended)
- Current driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement
- Proof of insurance
- Paper and pencil

Start times vary depending on location and host agency. Check your confirmation email for the specifics of your class.
A typical start time is 8:45 a.m. sharp! Plan to be in your seat and ready to begin at the time listed for your class. Class typically ends around 4:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Yes! You are encouraged to bring a passenger. Your passenger is required to wear the same safety equipment that you are required to wear.
You should wear normal protective clothes for motorcycling, including:
- Legal helmet (must meet the D.O.T. safety standard)
- Long sleeve shirt (recommended)
- Long pants
- Full-fingered gloves
- Over-the-ankle foot protection
- Eye protection
- Rain gear (recommended) – be prepared to ride in any weather
Yes. You must bring your own legally registered and insured motorcycle to class. Don’t forget to bring your registration and proof of insurance!
Riders of all types of motorcycles, including sportbikes, scooters, and trikes, are encouraged to participate.
Unfortunately we cannot allow participants to keep the vest at this time, however, riding with high visibility gear is considered a best practice for both daytime and nighttime riding safety.
Be prepared to ride in rain gear. It is very unlikely that we will cancel the class due to inclement weather.
Under truly severe conditions, the class will be rescheduled.
No. You must already have a valid motorcycle endorsement or a learner’s permit to attend MD MOTORS class.

Maryland MOTORS is an opportunity for motorcyclists to spend a day riding with police motor officers. These professional motorcyclists will share insights for you to be a safer rider through classroom sessions, slow speed training courses, and group rides.
Please bring your own lunch. Most classes are located near restaurants.
Trikes are more than welcome to participate. They will gain more thorough the instructional classroom portion than the actual observed rides. It is hard for the assessor to evaluate the rider’s skills on a trike, but the rider will still achieve some level of improvement.
No. Anyone who meets the basic requirements, including a proper motorcycle endorsement and legally registered and insured motorcycle.
