Care with us.

As Colorado’s largest workers’ compensation insurance carrier, Pinnacol is committed to keeping workers safe, helping Colorado employers thrive wherever they grow, and caring for the people and communities in our state.

In 2023, we donated time and financial support through grants, sponsorships, employee volunteer and giving programs, and the Pinnacol Foundation’s scholarship program- in total, investing over $1.1 million and 1,837 hours of volunteering.

Since home is where the heart is, we also invested in our own employees, championing diversity, equity and inclusion and building an award-winning work culture.

We love Colorado, and it shows.

Culture rooted in care

Caring for Colorado starts with our own team. We celebrate our differences, create an inclusive environment, prioritize the well-being of our team and give back to the communities where we live and work.

Our employees are mission-driven

You’ll see it in the way they open their hearts and wallets, raising a record-breaking $164,966 for local nonprofits through our employee-giving campaign. Pinnacol matched every donation, resulting in $322,021 for our community. 86% of our employees voluntarily invested in nonprofits serving the communities we live and work.

It also shows in the way they prioritize inclusive customer service, like our specialized support services for Spanish speakers, including return to work, safety services and a bilingual support claims support team for Spanish-speaking claims.

This year, our teams offered services that earned a record-breaking injured worker satisfaction rate among Spanish-preferred workers of 4.48 out of 5.

Award-winning culture

In 2023, for the seventh consecutive year, Pinnacol received a Top Workplaces honor, including four national 2023 Culture Excellence awards based on employee feedback. The Denver Business Journal recognized our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, naming Pinnacol a 2023 DE&I winner. As a finalist for the National Association of Corporate Directors DE&I Awards, Pinnacol’s board of directors was recognized for their unwavering commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse environment for Pinnacol and the state of Colorado.

Strengthening Colorado’s workforce

Did you know Pinnacol has one of the largest youth apprenticeship programs in the state?

Our award-winning U.S. Department of Labor-registered apprenticeship program has been studied and used as a model by state and federal delegations, business leaders and educators.

Our students aren’t the only ones who benefit — our state does too. Pinnacol’s learnings have helped enhance the pipeline of skilled talent for other employers in our state and have strengthened the model to support our state’s critical workforce needs.

Showing up for workers when it counts

At Pinnacol, we interact with injured workers and their families every day. We know that work-related injuries take an enormous toll on families — physically, emotionally and financially.

When injured workers need us the most, we’re there. Pinnacol makes robust investments in successful safety programs to prevent injuries before they occur. When injuries do occur, we lead among major workers' compensation providers with the state’s highest overall injured worker satisfaction rate — injured workers are confident their health and claim will be handled with care and they will get back to work safely and timely.

Our care extends to the children of injured workers.

In 2023, the Pinnacol Foundation awarded $433,820 to 89 students. With the largest scholarship program of its kind in the nation, the foundation has awarded $7.4 million to nearly 789 students across Colorado since its inception.

Investing in our community

We’re committed to supporting Colorado’s workforce development, safety and economic vitality. In 2023, we awarded $405,750 in grants to a diverse array of nonprofits that protect the health and safety of workers on the job, help injured Coloradans get back to work, and promote a robust business climate and a prepared workforce, including $15,000 to improve health and safety for Latinx business owners and workers.

Look for the helpers

On Veterans Day, employee volunteers joined Pinnacol President and CEO John O’Donnell, a military veteran, at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center to distribute 100 care packages to patients. The event was part of our employee-led volunteer program, Pinnacol in Action.

In 2023, we volunteered 1,837 hours with 55 nonprofits, including Denver Botanic Gardens, Project C.U.R.E. and The Women’s Bean Project.

When you care harder — you can actually feel the results.

According to the state of Colorado, for 8 consecutive years injured workers have rated Pinnacol the highest performing workers' comp carrier in the state.
