The Continuing Resolution passed by Congress Friday and signed into law includes $10 billion on drought disaster assistance for farmers. NAWG CEO Chandler Goule says the help is appreciated by wheat growers and the disaster provision contains some very beneficial changes from past legislation.
He says while the drought aid doesn’t make producers whole it least keeps many of them farming going forward.
Goule says now they’ll start working on the next farm bill and talk about what changes are needed to address the weather challenges that keep growing and impacting farmer and ranchers.
Under the CR bill, drought assistance will be triggered when counties experience D2 conditions for eight weeks on the U.S. Drought Monitor.
