For years, military spouse and caregiver Lauren Fagan struggled with the invisible illnesses of depression and alcoholism, leading her into a downward spiral that left her disappointing her family and herself. Hitting rock bottom gave her the motivation to take back control of her health and get help. Thanks to some connections she met through HOPE, Lauren found Warrior Wellness Solutions and found the support and strength she needed to turn things around. Our New York community recently came together for two amazing events to support our veterans and military families. We had a fantastic time at the 13th annual Clay Shoot at Orvis Sandanona Shooting Grounds, raising money and spreading HOPE. The following day, we gathered again for the 3rd Annual All-American Striped Bass Fishing Tournament, enjoying a day out on the water with our community. In total, both events raised $465K for HOPE's programs and services. Thank you to Stirling Collins and Bernard Ruf for organizing these incredible events and thank you to everyone who joined us in supporting our heroes!

This story. It's both challenging and happy. It's also another example of how much help is out there for injured #veterans, sufferers of #PTSD, and family members--who also need help coping. Allison Churchill recently wrote this poignant story for US Military Publishing LLC about the journey of Dave Jenkins, a United States Air Force veteran, mostly recently with the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group, who has suffered serious breathing problems after burn pit exposure in Iraq...and how Hope For The Warriors® and Wounded Warrior Project have helped him. If you are or know someone who needs help, PLEASE find it! It's there for you, and people do care. 💜 https://lnkd.in/gU3U_VwT #military, #militaryfamilies, #woundedwarriors Here are some other resources. If you know of others--local, regional or national--please comment! "My challenge is a blessing and to make the sacrifices [of so many] worth it, by continuing to make a difference, continuing to serve." This past weekend, COL Gregory D Gadson, USA (Ret.) reflected on the 17th anniversary of his Alive Day and what it means to him to honor the memory of his fallen brothers through continued service. If you're in the Washington, D.C. area, we encourage you to join us next Monday, May 13th for a book signing, Q&A, and inspiring discussion with Terese Schlachter & COL Gadson, the authors of "Finding Waypoints: A Warrior's Journey Towards Peace and Purpose." At this event, the authors will share what inspired them to write the book, its impact on Greg during the writing process, and its impact on his healing journey. Throughout this month's 30x30 Wellness Challenge, we're taking time each Monday to remember and honor our fallen heroes. Today on Mission Monday, we're remembering Corporal Christopher Scherer, whose bravery and sacrifice echo through time. Corporal Christopher Scherer was a beloved son, a cherished friend, and a dedicated Marine. Chris grew up in East Northport, New York, where his laughter filled the streets, and his spirit lifted the hearts of all who knew him. From his days playing soccer, baseball, and lacrosse to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at just 17, Chris lived a life of purpose and determination. Deployed to Iraq with the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Chris faced the realities of war with unwavering bravery. On July 21, 2007, Chris made the ultimate sacrifice while conducting combat operations in Iraq. He was known as the most likable Marine in his platoon. His sense of humor and his ability to lift spirits with voice impressions. His presence kept morale high, even in the darkest of times. Corporal Christopher Scherer will forever be remembered for his courage, selflessness, and indomitable spirit. In honor of Corporal Christopher Scherer and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we remember, we honor, we never forget.
