Meet Allen Sherrill, the Volunteer Engagement Director with Ashure Ministry, Inc ❤️ located in Newton, NC (Catawba County). Allen not only keeps those volunteers busy, but he also oversees the Walmart Retail Pick-up Program for the agency. When you ask him what this food means to the clients that they serve, he will tell you that it means the difference in eating one day or not eating. Through the Retail Pick-up Program, a collaborative effort between Walmart, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and local nonprofits like Ashure Ministry, Allen and his team take on a very important role. Robert Fulbright, their Food Pantry Manager, picks up food twice a week from two different Walmart locations - the Hickory Walmart 948 and the Conover Walmart. With the assistance of store associates, they pick up food from the Retail Pick-up Program that will reach the hands of the close to 2,000 households that they serve monthly. The goal of this program is to help end hunger and reduce food waste at the same time. How? By salvaging quality products that would otherwise be discarded. These items help fill the gaps for those struggling with food insecurity. Without this programming, the over 20,000 individuals living at or below the poverty level (12.8% of the population) in Catawba County would do without. That is approximately 2,400 seniors and 6,600 children who would be facing each day without food. You can help us and our 950+ partner agencies just like Ashure Ministry make an impact in your community by donating to the Walmart + Sam's Club FIGHT HUNGER. We host food distributions throughout our service region to help reach those struggling with food insecurity. We host school mobile pantries throughout our service region for families who have students at Title Ones Schools during the week. These photos are from a recent public food distribution held in Spartanburg and managed by our wonderful team at our Spartanburg branch. If you are in need, please bookmark this page on our website as this is where we keep all of our upcoming distributions listed. https://lnkd.in/gVy7NFve As you can see, we would not be able to do this alone - our wonderful upstate SC volunteers are phenomenal and we thank them so much for their dedication to end hunger. #shmetrolinaSpartanburg #shmetrolina #EndHunger #Spartanburg #OurTeamRocks #shmetrolinaVolunteers
