10 Reasons your Church Needs to Use Social Media

There are a number of reasons your Church should be using social media. Here are 10 of the most important ones:

1. Social media can help connect with members and guests. Social media is a great way to connect with members of your congregation, as well as those who may not yet be part of your Church community.

2. Social media can help share your Church's message. Social media can be used to share inspiring messages, quotes, and other content that can help promote your Church’s message.

3. Social media can help with outreach. When used effectively, social media can be a powerful outreach tool. It can help churches connect with people who may not otherwise hear about them, and it can be a way to start building relationships with those in the community that lead to real-life in-person relationships down the road.

4. Social media can help Churches build community by keeping followers informed, involved, and engaged with their content. It also is a great way to reach out to people who may not be able to make it to your physical Church location (such as those who are sick or homebound).

5. Social media can help grow your church physically and Spiritually. It is a tool that can be used to help attract new people, connect with existing members and get your church’s message out. It also is a tool that lets you build up your members and guests Spiritually through engaging posts that help them grow.

6. Social media can help save time and money. In and of itself, social media is free. This means that it can be free to reach your community. The investment is in time and effort (and if you invest in someone helping you grow your Church). However, social media can help get new members, and the more you put into building your online presence, the more you get out of it.

7. Social media can be used to pray for others. You can post about your needs and people can pray for you, you can ask your social media followers for prayer requests and then pray for them, or you can post (within taste and reason) about the needs of others in your Church's network and people can pray for them.

8. Social media can be used to find other churches to partner with. You can find local Churches and ministries that have any special events coming up (such as Vacation Bible School, Christmas/Easter celebrations, mission trips, etc.) that you can join in on together.

9. Social media can be used to find volunteers as you spread the word about events and needs happening at your Church.

10. Social media can be used for evangelism. It can help you engage with people in a way that is informal and friendly and that invites them to come to visit your Church or meet with someone on staff about any issues or questions they may have.

When you choose to use social media for your Church, it’s important to remember that social media is just one tool of many in the Church’s community-building efforts, and the culmination of community-building for Churches should be done at the Church building in person.
