Mobile operators are transforming their networks into open, standardized Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platforms, enabling new applications and further accelerating digital transformation. Exposing network services externally to enterprises and app developers enables new services and also improves user experience and security for existing applications. Doug Makishima, Advisor for MEF moderates an expert panel featuring Mark Cornall, Technical Director at the GSMA, Markus Kümmerle, Chair of Outreach Committee at CAMARA, Alicia Miller, Network API Ecosystem Development Lead at Verizon and Ivan Ostojicć, Chief Business Officer at Infobip. #insight #interaction #impact

Available to download now, this special MEF Member only report focuses on India, comparing its key findings to the global benchmark in areas such as user attitudes to data sharing, security perceptions and artificial intelligence. Indian mobile users are among the most confident globally, engaging fully across many aspects of mobile life and with fewer concerns about sharing their information with organisations, apps and services. But could their confidence be ill-founded? New insight suggests that despite higher use of tools to protect their data, Indian users remain exposed to data harms. The free report is available exclusively for MEF Members now! #insight #interaction #impact

The Mobile Payment Market is bubbling with innovation. I would strongly urge you to read *MEF Mobile Payment Yearbook 2024*. There is a lot to keep up with. In continental Europe, a small number of QR code-based services have reached critical mass challenging the success of in-store payments. The EU Digital Markets Act was created to open competition on app stores, potentially expanding the role of Direct Carrier Biling. In Asia we are seeing a new chapter of the super-apps, creating new customer experiences around payment, and a new template for other markets to folllow. Mobile Wallet services have been vibrant and entrepreneurial in India. Paytm in January 2014, launched the Paytm Wallet, giving users the option to pay for many services through the platform, such as Indian Railways and Uber. Over the last two decades, mobile money has changed the lives of millions, but its international expansion has not met the original expectations. M-PESA says its pioneering Kenyan services increased the country’s financial inclusion from only 26 percent to 84 percent in 15 years. From the USA, software-based POS (point of sales) payments could give the mobile payment space a major boost, expanding card acceptance to many more micro-merchants, and lowering costs for large merchants. Digital tokens are growing in the importance of security in the ecosystem as fraud is mounting higher. The European Union’s Payment revision of the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) was a big moment for DCB. The original PSD rules allowed consumers to buy digital goods and mobile VAS products via the phone bill. PSD2 extended that scope to movies, games, streaming TV subscriptions and more – providing transactions were capped at €50. Too little or too much? Join Claire Maslen (Lines) at Mobile Ecosystem Forum in planning the next wave of in-depth topic reviews and industry debates at MEF's Payment and Commerce Working Group.
