Whet Thursday is a free after-hours event held at the Metal Museum on the last Thursday of each month from May through August.  

​

Immerse yourself in the celebration of the art of metalwork against the backdrop of the Mississippi River. Experience the magic of metal with live demonstrations by skilled blacksmiths, showcasing their craft in action. Take a stroll through our captivating galleries, featuring exhibitions that highlight the beauty and versatility of metal as an artistic medium.

Sip on craft cocktails and enjoy delicious bites from local food trucks while mingling with fellow art enthusiasts and patrons of the Metal Museum. Whether you're an avid art lover, a curious explorer, or simply looking for a unique evening out, Whet Thursday promises an unforgettable experience for all!

2024 WHET THURSDAY EVENTS

MAY 30  –––––––––  WELCOME BACK, MEMPHIS

It’s that time…Whet Thursdays are here again! On May 30 we will host the first Whet Thursday of the season with extended hours. We will now experience the beautiful bluff from 5-8pm for our after hours events! Corey Lou & DaVillage will bring Memphis Soul music. And you can’t have a salute to Memphis without BBQ… Smurfey’s Smokehouse will be our featured food truck. And what is a party without libations? The Tipsy Tumbler will be serving up the beverages! So come on out, Memphis – we can’t want to see you! 

JUN. 27  ––––––––––––––––  SALSA ON THE BLUFF

Have you ever watched someone salsa dancing and thought, “I would LOVE to dance like that?” Well, now’s your chance. Our June 27 edition of Whet Thursday will be one big dance class party! Edgar Mendez and his instructors will be joining us to give us salsa lessons. ElMero Taco food truck will be on hand to serve some of the best Mexican food around. The Tipsy Tumbler will be pouring as usual, and MemPops will be serving cool sweet treats. Let’s enjoy these summer days together on the bluff. 

JUL. 25  –––––––––––––––––––  FUREVER FRIENDS*

We are partnering with Team Memphis Rescue and Support to help endangered fur babies. Team Memphis Rescue and Support is a non-profit all-breed rescue group that places lost, abandoned and neglected pets find “forever homes.” If you are in search of a new companion, come out and meet the pups, play with them, and see if you find one that is a good fit for you and your family. Bring your dinner or you can purchase something delicious from the Millie’s Garden Salads food truck. Enjoy the calming jazz music and the sunset on the Bluff. The Tipsy Tumbler and MemPops will be on-hand as well.  *Please do not bring your pets to this event, it is an adoption event only.

AUG. 29  –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––  ELVIS!

August is Elvis Month. On August 29th, we will host a musical salute to Elvis! Enjoy the music that Elvis Presley is still celebrated for. DJ 1 Luv will rock the turn tables with tunes such as “Jailhouse Rock,” “Don’t be Cruel,” and “Suspicious Minds.” Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will be here, providing ASL tours for the deaf and hard of hearing community. Stick ‘Em will be the food truck serving fresh and delicious kabobs in addition to their selection of vegan and vegetarian menu items and more! The Tipsy Tumbler will pour the libations, and MemPops will serve their cool, sweet treats. And who knows -- Elvis just MIGHT be at the Museum...Come out and see!
