The Special Representative convened an extraordinary meeting of the Network of Focal Points on Migration regarding the situation of people fleeing Ukraine

The Special Representative on Migration and Refugees, Ms Leyla Kayacik, convened today an extraordinary online meeting of the Council of Europe Network of Focal Points on Migration to gather information on the situation of the civilian population fleeing from Ukraine to neighbouring countries, and the challenges faced by the relevant authorities.

The meeting provided an overview of fast-changing developments in member states, including the need to protect vulnerable persons against abuse, exploitation and trafficking, and in particular unaccompanied children. The Special Representative will explore how best the Council of Europe can respond to current needs in the framework of the Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025).

The Network of Focal Points on Migration meets twice a year and is composed of members from relevant ministries of member states dealing with migration issues at the national level. The aim of the Network is to exchange information and good practices in the field of migration, and enhance co-operation among relevant stakeholders in the member states and with the Council of Europe.
