Management of Prisons and Probation: New Challenges and Innovative Responses 


The 28th Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison and Probation Services was held at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Berlin (Germany) on 6 and 7 June 2023. It was co-organised with the German Federal Ministry of Justice. It was preceded on 5 June by the 12th Annual General Meeting of EuroPris.

The Conference was held in plenary sessions and in workshops. The six workshops dealt with medical care, including remote medical care; ways to decrease the penal response to offending; dealing with sex offenders and with genre based violence; dealing with drug addiction; social reintegration and the use of restorative justice.

The Conference was opened to invited participants only: Directors of the Prison and Probation Services of the Council of Europe member and observer States as well as representatives of the European Union, the United Nations, the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris), the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) and the Confederation of European Probation (CEP).

There was no possibility for on-line participation in the Conference.
