USI 2023 Latinx Heritage Month speaker to address Latino community’s local impact

The University of Southern Indiana Multicultural Center will host Abraham Brown, a local community leader, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 26 in Carter Hall, located in University Center West. This event will honor Latinx Heritage Month and is open to the public at no charge.  

As a primary advocate for the local Latino community, Brown’s presentation will explore his role as an entrepreneur, business owner and community organizer. He will be sharing information about the growth and impact the Latino community has in the Evansville community and surrounding Tri-state area. 

Currently, Brown holds various key roles, including Director of Latino Ministry in Henderson, Kentucky; Regional Liaison for the Mexican Consulate; Editor/Owner of EL INFORMADOR LATINO, the Tri-state’s trusted Latino newspaper; Founder of FIESTA EVANSVILLE; Co-founder of the Evansville Latino Center; Owner of LA CAMPIRANA LLC; and serves as President of the Latino Indiana–Kentucky Soccer League. 

Notably, FIESTA EVANSVILLE, Southern Indiana’s premier Latino Festival, has drawn over 29,000 attendees from diverse backgrounds over eight successful years. His commitment extends to multiple Boards, including Mayor Winnecke’s Latino Advisory Board, Leadership Everyone and the Latino Collaboration Table, among others.  

He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas – San Antionio, a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Northeastern Mexico and a master’s degree in education from Sul Ross State University.
