The New TREMEC TKX

Watch Robert Hall of American Powertrain and Chad Reynolds of Bangshift.com go over the new TKX

The New TREMEC TKX is the new 5-speed in town. TREMEC has normally sourced their aftermarket transmissions from the OE side, such as the Magnum T-56 and the T-5. This brand new design is made from the ground up as a strictly aftermarket transmission. Designed to fit classic muscle cars and customs, the TKX has a tighter, more streamlined case.

TKX 5-Speed Manual Transmission Features and Benefits

  • The TKX has 600 lb.-ft. of torque capacity and is capable of engines speeds of 8,000 RPMs with shifts at 7,500 RPMs. It is available in multiple gear ratio configurations (See chart below).
  • Designed for multiple applications with three shifter locations. Compact, end-loaded design provides clearance in most transmission tunnels without floor modifications.
  • Increased case strength with three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness (includes main case, intermediate plate and rear extension). Gaskets at all flanges simplifies installation and eliminates fluid leaks.
  • Superior shift-ability through use of multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid synchronizer rings made of sintered bronze and carbon
  • Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) minimized with gear layout to best control stress levels. All gears supported by caged needle bearings to reduce end play on the gears.
  • All gears and shafts made from special grade steel (ASTM 4615) providing increased torque carrying capacity.
  • Equipped with a high-performance short-throw billet aluminum shifter that isolates road noise, while providing clean, crisp shifts.
  • Robust design with internal three-rail shift system and steel shift forks.
  • Wide gear width increases gear life and torque capacity.
  • 26-spline input shaft with a 31-spline output shaft for added strength.
  • Built-in reverse light switch and cruise control safety switch.
  • Separate GM and Ford case patterns and input configurations. Integrated GM and Ford transmission mount patterns.

American Powertrain can also provide a mid-shift conversion, as well as a White Lightning shifter. The White Lightning Shifter features over 60 additional shifter locations to help get the new TKX set up for your muscle car, truck or custom project. American Powertrain will also have a direct fit version for Classic Corvettes and Mopars, which feature a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty backed up even further with American Powertrain’s two year warranty. 1. Honestly we do not really know yet as we have not had time to fit the TKX to all the applications since TREMEC just came out with it. TKO you have to cut the floor for sure. TKX is smaller but A-body mopar has a really small tunnel. So to be safe I can’t tell you yet you wont have to modify the floor until we get all our engineering done.

    1. We have all that. Just call us for a quote on an A-body conversion kit. TKO kits have been around for years. The TKX is the same except it fits the floor better. You need to have the right offset shifter for the transmission which we make just for the console cars.

          1. Hi I have a 1965 mustang I’m putting in a tkx 5 speed and I want to use a hydraulic clutch what kit will work with the tkx with a hydraulic t/out bearing

  1. Im doing a different engine swap and was looking to see if you offer kits for different motors? Its a 2.8l vr6 out of a vw.

  2. That sounds cool and all. But I would like to have one specifically made for the 4.3L V6 Chevy engine. Because it would be nice for us gearheads who like muscle but don’t like the fuel economy of the V8 engines.

    1. It does sound cool…..You know the 4.3 has a small block chevy bolt pattern right? the TKX bolts up to any SBC bell housing…We have all the stuff you need to make it work.

  3. Will this be a direct fit with no modifications for a 69 camaro .Do i need a different crossmember .What else do i need thanks

    1. Yep…You need our TKX Pro-Fit kit for 1st Gen Camaros. Give us a call at 931-646-4836. We do our quotes over the phone per application since there are many options.

  4. I’m interested the TKX in close ratio with .81 for my 65 Fastback Mustang in 10 spline input is that possible? Also how much work will need to be done if any to the Transmission Tunnel to fit?

  5. Wondering if this will fit in an early model 1965/66 mustang without having to modify the floor pans? Thanks!

  6. Sounds real good, but I got one for you. Do you have a version that will fit in a 1973 pinto four cylinder 2.0 liter?

  7. Same input spline as a Muncie? I can use my old clutch disc on my small block Chevy V8? How about the transmission yoke same number of teeth? How about the length of the transmission is it the same?

    1. No its 26-spline. Its longer and you have to have a new driveshaft made. 31 spline yoke. It bolts up like a muncie. We have been doing the kits for years with the TKO for munice cars. We make the drive shaft and supply the correct crossmember and all that. Just give us a call.

  8. I have a 1963 Ford Galaxie with a 429 installed. I want to switch from AT to manual and have been looking at the TKO, so this is good news.
Do you offer a bellhousing, flywheel, release bearing, the new TKX with a shifter location close to the stock one.?
I have a full machine and fab shop on site, so a crossmember and motor mount position are flexible. I just need the shifter to fall somewhat close to the factory location. Will be using a set of stock car race pedals and master cylinders.

  9. Looking for a tkx kit for a 1966 chevy II. The car currently has a 283 v8 with a muncie 4spd. The car has a bench seat and 3:08 rear gears. I am considering changing the rear gears to 3:73 with the tkx 5spd.

    1. What’s the dollar number for an automatic to manual conversion for a 70 GTO using the TKX and a complete installation kit?
      Thanks Gord

  10. Do you already have the mid-shifter kits worked out? Also, do these have the improved synchro and shifter rail systems more like a magnum than a TKO? There is definitely a difference in how a Magnum feels versus a TKO.

  11. I have a 1965 Chevy impala 396/four-speed, what transmission will fit without modifying the floor and will fit the stock console.

  12. i have a 1976 pontiac trans am 455 and a borgwarner 4speed . do you have a tkx kit for my car? the car has orginal consol and i dont like to cut in the floor is it possible with the new tkx? when is this kit ready for shipment and what is the part/order number for this kit?

  13. I have a 1993 Ford F150 Lightning, automatic 351windsor, 410 rear end. Would like to convert to manual and looking to free up final ratio for more cruising ability. Thoughts?

  14. Can you guys explain how you fit a T 56 in a 1965 Mustang without tunnel mods and keeping the correct driveline angle thanks?

  15. Hello – I have a 77 Olds 442 that I converted to a 4 speed. I have a 73 442
4 speed console in her, will the TKX shifter be in the same place or will I need to cut the floor?

    Thanks Matt

  16. I have a 1967 C10 steptside short bed and the engine sits very close to the firewall. The engine is a 350 with 3.42 rear gear and a B/W super T10 4speed bench seat.Question: will your TKX fit without cutting the tunnel and would the shifter have to be moved to mid-position, and does it cost more to move the shifter?

  17. I just ordered the American Powertrain Tremec
TKX transmission from Summit Racing! It says ship date is Jan. 18th, 2021. But I see you guys say you will start shipping on Nov. 30th, 2020. Should I expect my unit to show up in December 2020?

  18. I have a 1968 Camaro with an LS376 engine and stage 2 cam. I am looking to buy an engine and saw that the TKX might look a bit fit yet especially since it resembles in the most part the TKO 600/500 transmission, has the same torque capacity (600ft-lb), and has an 8,000 rpm max.. Would there be a kit available for this configuration? And if so what would be the pricing for a close-ratio kit that would have everything needed to just drop it in. Thank you!

    Jim

    1. TKX and TKO are the same for any of our old kits. The TKX just replaces the TKO with a better case and better shifting. The best thing to do is fill out our RFQ link on the site or call us at 931-646-4836. We like to quote the kits since they have tons of options.

  19. Will this work in a Chevy 67 c10 , want to use original truck bell housing and clutch fork , rear cross member is a th350 that I have , I can have drive shaft done locally, I will need A yoke? Rear gears are 4:11, what OD Would be better.

    1. Yes it works we have complete C10 kits. You will need to cut the floor or get one of our C10 tunnel humps with your kit. It does come with a yoke. But keep in mind our Pro-Fit kits come with a new driveshaft. Just call us at 931-646-4836 for a quote.

  20. Looking for a belhousing to mate the newer duratec- mazda-ford 2.5 with a ford spec of the tkx.. The mustang ecoboost 6speed bolts right up too the 2.5… But I don’t want to go thru the hassle of that swap as the tkx is much stronger.

  21. I am building a 445 FE Ford putting together a street/strip 68 F100 short bed. Can we use this TKX. I have the TKO600 in a 91 fox and love it. My concern is shifter placement.

  22. Will the TKX work without any tunnel cutting or oddball shift lever orientations in a 2008 Mustang GT? Is it compatible with the S197’s input shaft-mounted throwout bearing and are there any known spacer requirements? I’m looking at the TKX as a possible alternative to the Magnum XL, for use at HPDE track days where at least 3rd, 4th, and 5th are closely spaced, with 5th gear being around 0.8. It looks like gearing in the TKX would be slightly better around town than a 2.66-low Magnum, and not quite as good for long highway stretches.

    1. It will fit but you are taking long way around to get gear ratios you want. We can change gear ratios on a Magnum XL which will fit 1000 times better in that car. Give us a call at 931-646-4836

    1. They took out the torque arm provision . I watched a video where they said they where going to work out some kit that the torque arm would probably be attached to the crossmember i think . Im also waiting to hear more about this . I cant wait for this trans . I have a 3rd gen Fbody as well

  23. I bought a frame from tci for a 36 ford it was built for a gm 4 speed. Can I convert it to your new 5 speed with out modify the frame?

  24. Thanks, Matt. Either way, it’s a long-lead kind of thing and I’m mostly looking to see if there are any hard deal-breakers with respect to the TKX. To date, the Magnum XL has been the leading choice, but then the TRX showed up as an alternative at least worth looking into.

  25. I have today a 65 Mustang with a 5.0 and a t-5 trans
what do I need to put a TKX in the car?
    Rolf Johnsson Sweden.

  26. I have a ’61 Falcon with a 408w and a t-5. What am I looking at to swap this in? I’m already drooling at the thought of not having to worry about grenading my tranny if I unexpectedly find to much traction.

    1. We have an E-body kit in R&D right now. It will be done mid Jan. You will not have to cut the floor. But a stock TKX out of the box will not work. You will need our kit.

  27. Which TKX is compatible with my 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone 390 GT? What bellhousing do I use? Will the stock crossmember work with TKX? What effect will TKX have on diveline pitch to rear axle housing? Will TKX shifter fit stock cut out in center tunnel?

  28. What is the size (dia) of the bearing retainer on the front of the transmission, want to mate it to old truck bell housing in a 67 c10 1/2 ton in place of truck 4sp,

    1. We strongly suggest getting a new bell. Those old C10 bells with the motor mounts are sketchy at best for proper bell alignment on a modern transmission. We have gone down this road a lot with customers on those. Any muncie style new bell will work. We also sell them.

  29. I have a 39 Chevy coupe with an LS3 7004R combo now with no floor pan mods.
Do you think the TKX will fit in the same basic location? I am not opposed to some mods but would rather not have to if possible. Also do you offer an install kit like some others? (bell, clutch, flywheel, ECT,,,)

  30. Hello,
I would like to know will this new TKX box bolt straight up to a Cleveland engine standard bell housing pattern or is there sum mods I would have to do, I have a 1970 falcon.

    Regards,
    Dean.

  31. I see tremec is close until January 4th by there web site. Do you have a realistic time when they
Will begin shipping the tkx? I already have a order with americanpowertrain.

    1. I wish we did. We have over 100s of units on order so we are waiting on a shipping notification from them. Currently we think its going to be mid Jan or end of next week before the first batch gets here. A lot depends on when you placed your order.

  32. I have a 55 Ford custom line I was wondering if the new TKOX will go in without hump modifications on this it has a 410 FE motor in it was a four-speed now

  33. I currently have a t-5 swapped in to my 1965 mustang that is pretty overpowered by my new motor. What modifications would be needed to swap in the TKX?

  34. Hi will TKX fit for 63 Impala orginal 4 speed car with floor console, do you have shift kit for it ? Going for Ls swap .

  35. Does this use the same bolt pattern the TKO uses for a GM? So If I had a TKO600 already and wanted to switch to this I wouldn’t have to change the bellhousing?

  36. 1970 Chevy nova ss396 factory four speed , no console car . I like the TKX as an option , wondering about the floor and any cutting or trimming , the car is an original 396-375 , I don’t want to cut up the floor . Also can a factory clutch set up work ? I have a m-22 now with 1350 u joints , any info would be appreciated , thanks

    1. It will fit with no cutting. you can reuse all the factory linkage, crossmember and bell housing. You will need a 26 spline clutch and a new driveshaft since its a longer trans and has a much larger yoke 31-spline. We have all that. We do A-bodies in our sleep.

      1. Thanks Matt , so if I get the trans mission n shifter , do I need a different crossmember ? And how about a ruffcost on the conversion ? Thanks again

  37. Has there been any verification on fitment of the tkx in a Mopar a body with or without floor modifications. Also, I placed my order in late November. Any updates on when orders will be fulfilled?

    1. We still have not verified fitment on Mopar A-body. We are finishing up B and E body right now. We have a lot going on in R&D just trying to get to all these designs. A-bodies are so tight on the floor it’s going to be close. Tremec is telling us now Ford TKXs will be shipping in March. They are building GM units first those are rolling out in Feb. Sorry for the delay. Since you ordered in Nov you will be one of the first in March to get a Ford unit.

  38. I have a 1984 Mustang SVO with the 2.3 turbo four and a T5. Is there a kit for the TRX to bolt up to the 2.3?

  39. I have a Buick 215 that is presently mated to a GM T5. It is modded for a neutral safety switch and an electronic speedo output. Does the TKX come standard with a neutral safety switch? What is the output of the electronic speedo output (pulses per mile?)? I noticed that the rear transmission mount is straight not tilted as I now have. Is this the same distance to the rear from the front mount face as the T5? I presently have my shifter located 2 inches to the rear and 1.5 inches to the left (drivers side). I think that your shifter position is 1 inch further to the rear than the T5–am I correct? If not is the shifter position in the same location as the T5? Thank you for any help.

    1. GM T-5 speedo output is different that TKX. They all use the Ford output signal. You will need dakota digital converter to make it work. They all have the neutral safety switch. You will need a TKO/TKX bellhousing. That tilted T-5 one will not work. we can match the shift location using our offset shifter set up. Just give us a call at 931-646-4836.

  40. any updates on the TKX fitting a mopar a body ? going to rebuild the hemi 4 speed behind my hemi but this might be a better avenue to look at . will this unit take lots of torque ? thx Ron

  41. Hi, I have a 65 mustang, 363cid (Boss302) with a Quicktime bellhousing RM-6065 (for TKO 500/600-TR3550-T5, depth 6.925″) and currently a GForce T5. Do I need to swap the bellhousing for the TKX or will i fit straight on?
Also what is the input shaft bearing retainer outside diameter (for the hydraulic release bearing)? Thanks, Jan.

  42. Hi, I have a Quicktime bellhousing RM6065 (for T5, TKO 500/600, TR3550) on my Ford 302, will this transmission fit this housing without any adapters or modifications? Also, what is the outer diameter of the input shaft bearing retainer (for the release bearing)?

  43. In the process of installing one of your TKO-600’s in my 65 Corvette behind a 427 LS-3 and having issues with tunnel clearance on top to achieve the necessary driveline angles.
I need to raise the tailshaft and just questioning if the new TKX provides more room on top before proceeding with tunnel modifications.
    Thank you

    1. The TKX will provide more room. However our TKO kits fit those cars with no mods much at all. Is this a modern LS engine? If so you have to be careful what motor mounts you use. They can raise the crank centerline different from stock.

  44. Thanks Matt.
It is a custom build late gen LS. The motor mounts are sliders by Dirty Dingo which actually sit the motor down pretty low.
Going to install the Corvette floor sag kit provided by SST which should raise the tunnel some.

  45. Hello
Just purchased a 2001 ls1 corvette engine to go into my 96 2.2l s10. Will your new tkx box fit and do you sell the parts required to bolt it up to the ls1. The s10 has a rather large tunnel so room should not be an issue. Thank you.

    Allan

  46. Hello,
Restoring a 68 Chevelle. Plan to put SBC Blueprint 383 in and would like the TKX 5 speed behind it. It will have bench seat and has original tunnel(orig trans powerglide). Will I need tunnel mods and does the shifter position work with bench seat?
    Thank you,
    Darren

  47. I purchased a TKX 17805 for my 69 Camaro. I have a 3:31 rear and 26.5in rear tires. What would you consider an optimum rear ratio for my car?

  48. I have a 65 Galaxie with a 351 Windsor, auto trans w/console. Will the TKX work, my end goal, dependable street car, daily driver at 400-450 hp? Oh, nice fuel mailage would not hurt either.

  49. What are the bolt pattern measurements for the Ford style 10 spline wide-ration TKX? What is the length and diameter of the input shaft for the 10 spline wide-ratio Ford style? My application will be for a 1963 Studebaker Avanti with stock 289 engine and factory BW T-10 wide ratio 10 spline trans with Ford bolt pattern. thanks

  50. I have a 76 TA with a modified 455 (400 RWHP) with a 3.23 rear end, originally equipped with Super T10. Which transmission would you recommend and with which gear ratios?

    1. We recommend a TKX 17805 with the .68 gear. If you really want to get the gearing just right we suggest going with 3.73 gears as well. This will give you a great powerband throughout the gears and make overdrive a ton more useful.

  51. I have a 68 Chevelle 396 with a Muncie 4 speed, and would like to install the Tremec TKX, do they bolt to existing bell housing like the Muncie or are there special alignments and critical tolerances and proper driveshaft angles to be concerned with.

    1. Bolts right up. But you need to do a bellhousing alignment procedure. Driveshaft will also need to be upgradeded as it is shorter for the TKX and needs 31-spline yoke. If you order an A-body kit from us all that comes with it.

  52. I’m doing a hellcat swap on a ‘69 Charger. It doesn’t look like the TKX has quite enough torque capacity. Will there be a pumped up version of this or am I stuck with the 6060?

  53. Would appreciate price and availability of the TKX forward shifter conversion kit. Also, does the neutral safety switch work with this kit ? Thank you

    1. Neutral safety works just like the TKO did. How far forward are you needing it? The stock TKX shifter will flip forward 3″ If you need it more we have our WL shifter than can add up to 3″ more offset. You can select how long the offset needs to be on the product page. if you need it to be mid-shifted in the center of the trans that will be available by summer. But if this one works check it out.

      https://americanpowertrain.com/shop/shifters/white-lightning-shifter-for-tremec-tkx-5-speed/

  54. I have already purchased a new TKX 17765 locally. I am putting this in a ’66 Fairlane 427 FE (484 stroker). Does Tremec or American Powertrain have a solution for the short FE style input shaft? Thank you!

  55. We are building a 67 Fairlane and we are thinking of using the TKX, we are going to be running 390 FE, will this trans bolt up to the stock bell housing or will we need an aftermarket bell housing. Also what hydraulic clutch do you recommend for this setup

    1. There a few things we have to do for FEs since their bellhousing depth can be an issue. We have our own Hydramax hydraulic kit we offer. Give a us a call at 931-646-4836. Its too much to cover via typing. But we do FE all the time.

    1. G-bodies have small tunnels. We have not had a chance to fit one yet but we know you have to put a full tunnel in for a TKO. The TKX will fit better but it’s probably going to need some tunnel trimming.

  56. hi i would like to get one transmission send to me in the state of Kuwait and would it possible to be dealer to ur brand in my country thanks

  57. Is this a direct swap for 70 GTO Judge that already has an M20? Building a stroker and don’t want to tear up the original trans. Matching number car, want to be able to put back to original.

  58. Do you have a kit to put a TKX into a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport with a 351c? It was an automatic, but I changed to a clutch petal setup and I have a bell housing from a 4-speed. Will I need to change the driveshaft length? Will I need to change the end on the driveshaft to match up with the Tremec? Will the crossmember work that was in the car with a C6, or do you have one with the kit? I plan on converting to a hydraulic clutch. Do you offer a conversion to hydraulic? Thanks for your time.

    1. Keith,
You will need to change the driveshaft. Our kits come with a new driveshaft. It requires a 31-spline yoke and the TKX is longer. We do not have a bolt in crossmember for a Torino but you can modify the stock one to work. We have hydraulics as well. Best thing to do is call us at 931-646-4836 for a customized quote for your car.

    2. Do you have a gear ratio recommendation? I have a 9″ posi with a 3.00 gear ratio currently. I plan on buying the TCET 17765. Thanks for your time.

  59. i have a 1957 chevy belair two door with a 283 sb borred 60 over to 343 with muncie 4 speed i want to put a tremec tTKX transmission to replace the muncie 4 speed . do i have to make a lot of modifications to do this change ? witch one do i need THANK YOU CHUCK

    1. The TKX will bolt up to your stock bell. You will need our Tri-5 conversion kit. It comes with crossmember, 26 spline clutch, new driveshaft (TKX has 31 spline yoke and is longer than the Munice) and all the install parts you need. Give us a call at 931-646-4836 for a custom quote.

  60. Will the TKX fit the SN95 Mustang with the stock fork/bell housing, or is this a conversion that requires switching to Fox parts? Also, will the shifter match the stock location and will the stock SN95 driveshaft still fit? Thanks!

  61. I am looking at doing a swap of my Muncie for the new TKX in a 1959 Corvette.
Are the complete conversion kits with shaft and cross member available?

  62. I have a Ford FE 428 in my 59 Ford 2 door sedan, it currently has a small input wide ratio Toploader 4 speed, with a Hurst Super Shifter 3, originally from a 66 Fairlane 289. I want to retain my factory bench seat, so need the shifter in the forward Fairlane location, and would like to keep my Lakewood scattershield and factory mechanical clutch linkage. Will the TKX work with all of this ? How does the TKX compare strength wise, car is 4000 pounds, around 400 HP, and will see occasional dragstrip use with slicks.

  63. I have a 87 chevy el camino with a 350 small block. will the TKX fitt my car with out cutting the trance tunnel ?
if it does would if be possible for you to suply me with everything i need to do a swop fra a 350 auto to the TKX and ship it to Denmark ?

  64. Will the TKX fit the SN95 Mustang as is, with the stock fork/bell housing, or will I be required to switch those to the Fox parts? Also, will the shifter match the stock location and will the stock SN95 driveshaft still fit, or will I need a spacer? Thanks!

    1. You will need a TKO/TKX bell housing. TKX has the Ford Toploader bolt pattern. I will match the shifter and you will also need crossmember and a new driveshaft as its 31 spline and longer than a T5. Give us a call at 931-646-4836 for a quote.

  65. Have you looked at fitting a tkx into a mercedes w123 chassis car? they can readily be converted to a muncie if needed. thanks!

  66. Looking to see if a Tremec is available for my 1973 Ford F-250 w/ FE, large input shaft.
Engine is 445 cid, and 550 HP. Currently running a C6 Automatic.

    Thanks

    wb

    1. Is this truck a 4wd? Also are you doing any towing? if so for either one of these questions the TKX will not work if the answer is yes. If no then we can bolt it up to your FE engine no problem. sorry for the delay.

  67. I’m currently running a Super T10 (Chev bolt pattern) that has the 26 spline input shaft and I think a 31 spline drive shaft. I’m assuming I can bolt this TKX straight into the existing clutch and bellhousing assy; however, am I right in suggesting I need a new yoke? I’m living in Adelaide South Australia, just down the road..Do you ship to Australia, if so, how much does it cost? If you’re suggesting I do need a new yoke can you suggest the best yoke to suit a 500Hp (420ft.lb) dive line and a standard shifter?
    Cheers!

    1. TKX is longer so you will a shorter drive shaft. We do ship to Australia but we need to get you on the phone to determine shipping costs. All our yokes are good for well over 500hp and up. The yoke comes with the trans if you order it from us. Give us a call we are on central time in the states. 931-646-4836

    1. Please do not! That is the wrong type of oil. Fully synchronized Tremecs do not use heavy gear oil. They only use Dextron III ATF or Syncromesh fluid. We recommend breaking it in on Dextron III ATF then after 1000 miles switch to Mobil 1 ATF or a good syncromesh fluid. The G-force stuff is only for faceplated transmissions that do not have synchronizers

      1. GForce told me it can be used with a synchronized transmission like my current GForce upgraded T5 as long as it is mixed with a quart of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF?

        1. I dont know what G-Force does but we do not recommend it. If it is still under warranty you will void your Tremec warranty if you use any kind of gear oil in it.

  68. I have a 1972 GMC Sierra 4×4 with a 350, factory 4 speed and a bench seat. Will the new Tremec TKX fit this application without modifying the transmission hump? Also curious which gear combo you’d recommend. It has 3:73 gears. Thanks!

  69. Is there anything in the works for bolting one to a transfer case? I am in the planning stages for an AWD C3 Corvette. Think of it as a Corvette Hoonicorn.

  70. Hi. I just ordered and received the X-factor crossmember (AWR-XFFO-10101) for a 65 mustang with a TKX, through Summit Racing. Crossmember was sealed in a box with an American Powertrain sticker saying it is a X-factor crossmember for TKO/AOD/T5, lightweight made out of aluminium. There is absolutely not any lightweight with this, it is made out of steel and is heavier than my current T5 crossmember from MDL. The only reason i purchased this was because it was supposed to be in aluminium. Do you know why it is made of steel and not alu, like the sticker says?

  71. Yes it is a sticker on the box saying: “PO478322022, Quanty: 1 Sell: 1, AWR-XFFO-10101, X-FactorLightweightAluminumCrossmember for 65-72 Mustang, TKO/T5/AOD.” And a barcode.
I took a strong magnet and it stuck really good to both the center section and crossbars. Weight is 4.2lb, 1 lb more than my T5 MDL crossmember.

  72. I have an 88 IROC with a t-5, I’d like a kit with a TKX scatter shield, hydraulic throw out bearing kit and a driveshaft to fit with a BW 9 bolt. I already have a Spec clutch and my flywheel is balanced with the motor and I also have a spohn pro series torque arm and trans mount.

  73. I’m looking for a replacement for the stock trans in a 2013 Boss 302 LS. Is the Tremec Tkx a direct replacement? If so what item number do I order if I want to keep the gear ratios as close to stock as possible. Would you recommend a clutch replacement at the same time and if so what brand / model. The motor is the stock Boss engine, no mods.

  74. I won a 68 400 firebird with any new close ratio 4 speed and a 3:55 posi. What so you recommend for them application?

  75. Would it be possible to put this in my 06 mustang gt, and if so how can I make it fit? My stock trans isn’t holding up any longer and I need something that can handle the power I’m making.

    1. TKX is the not the right application for your Mustang. We have direct fit bolt in kit featuring the Magnum XL 6-speed. Has the bell, crossmember and shifter. You just need to get a new one piece driveshaft made (we can do that too) and 26-spline clutch kit. Just give us a call at 931-646-4836 for more

  76. I have a 62 pontiac catalina. I am putting a 64 389 from a gto in the car. The car is currently an automatic. Do you have everything needed to make this car a 5 speed? (Pedal kit, linkage, etc)

  77. My planned “build” includes a Tremec five speed and Headman 68609 shorty headers. As loopy as it sounds, Headman says that they can’t be used with a standard transmissions with a floor shift. Headman is either unwilling or unable to tell me why.
Do you have any insight or ideas about this?

  78. Hi I’m looking to swap out my 4L60E for a 5 speed in my 02 Silverado ext cab.
Would this transmission be a good fit for me.
    408 Stroker with a procharger.
    Thanks!

  79. I have a 95 Jeep yj with sbc 350 with sm465 transmission and np205 transfer case.
I hate this 4 speed with granny Geer but my rear drive shaft is only 18″ now
