Preliminary Injunction Granted for Oakland County (MI) Jail to Release Medically Vulnerable Community Members
Civil rights and racial justice groups today have won freedom for medically vulnerable people inside the Oakland County Jail in Michigan, and family members will soon welcome home loved ones eligible to serve their sentence at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Responding to claims by Advancement Project National Office that county officials are risking the lives of everyone inside and the community at large because of their failure to respond to the threat of COVID-19, federal court judge Linda V. Parker granted preliminary injunction which allows for those in jail eligible under the CDC’s definition of medical vulnerability to serve their sentences at home during the pandemic.
