The health services technology associate degree program is designed to provide skills and experiences essential for those who desire a career in health services by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through knowledge-based learning, experiential processes, community involvement and practical experiences under direct supervision of professionals in each respective field.

Students in the health services technology program can choose from several areas of study.

Students can choose to major in medical coding, which requires full completion of the health services technology associate degree.

Or students can choose a certificate pathway as part of their health services technology associate degree:

Certificates in the health services technology associate degree program can be completed as stand-alone certificates for employment. The certificates are also stackable, meaning multiple certificates can be completed to earn an associate degree. Students who complete a certificate are well on their way to completing the health services technology associate degree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take classes online or face-to-face?

Students pursuing a healthcare certificate and/or associate degree should expect to take classes face-to-face to experience hands-on learning. Some general education classes may be offered online. 

Where can I find a list of classes (plan of study) for the program I want to study?

Each program at COTC has a plan of study that lists the courses students take to complete a certificate or degree. 

The health services technology associate degree has multiple plans of study. 

Can I pursue an associate degree after I complete a certificate?

Students who complete a healthcare certificate are encouraged to keep going because they are well on their way to completing the Associate of Applied Science in Health Services Technology.  

Can I pursue a bachelor’s degree after I complete an associate degree?

Students interested in continuing their education to pursue a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration can consider transferring to a four-year college or university. COTC has a transfer agreements with:

What type of financial assistance is available to help me pay for college?

COTC awards $1 million in scholarships to students each year.

Every student is encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for grants, scholarships and loans. 

Students who complete a FAFSA are automatically considered for some scholarships. Other scholarships require an application.
