The many shapes, sizes, smiles of Groupmuse

Dear Groupmuse Family,

Each day brings a new level of severity to the crisis our human community is collectively facing. While we had hoped Groupmuse could continue to be a way for people to gather on a small scale through these trying times, it has become clear that we must join the calls of the moment to stay home and help “flatten the curve.”

So, effective immediately, we are cancelling all in-person groupmuses from now until the end of April. However, we are providing musicians an option to turn all planned groupmuses into “live-stream-muses” — events that maintain the social connectedness and the artistic depth of our living room gatherings, but through the internet (through Zoom, or Youtube, or a comparable service). These live-stream-muses can bridge the divides of our social distancing and keep us connected to what makes us uniquely human during a time of tragedy, loneliness, isolation, and — let’s be honest — boredom.

All groupmuses on our platform are now labeled “Pending.” If a musician agrees to move their event to a live-stream, the event will stay online. If they decide to cancel, that’s what will happen.

This is an especially difficult and frightening time for musicians — who depend on in-person gatherings to make ends meet — so we’ve organized an emergency musician relief fund to support musicians who had groupmuses cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19.

We typically raise over $25,000 per month for musicians through Groupmuse, so that’s our target for this fundraiser. Please give what you can ($10, $20, $50, $100!) if you’re willing and able to. Musicians work so hard to make our world a deeper and more beautiful place — a world that’s worth fighting for. Let’s now show up and fight for them when they need it the most.

Stay healthy and stay safe. We can’t wait to see you all in a few months when the flowers are out, and so are we.

In solidarity,

Sam + Team Groupmuse
