Crowley Earns Military Friendly Designation for Recruitment, Retention

Crowley Maritime Corp. has been designated as a 2021 Military Friendly Employer because of the company’s ongoing support and advancement of veteran and military employees.

The designation, offered through the Military Friendly Employers program by the service disabled, veteran owned firm Viqtory, rates organizations using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey involving hundreds of companies.

Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Viqtory, an organization connecting the military community with civilian organizations, with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment communities. Final ratings were determined by combining an organization’s survey score with an assessment of the organization’s ability to meet thresholds for applicants, new hire retention, employee turnover, and promotion and advancement of veterans and military employees.

As a leading provider of global supply chain solutions, maritime, energy and technology services to commercial, U.S. government and military sectors, Crowley has increasingly emphasized and supported the inclusion of veterans, service members and military spouses. Crowley’s Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) supports the careers of former and current service members. About 13 percent of Crowley’s workforce is made up of veterans and military reservists, and the retention rate for those employees at Crowley is 93 percent.

“Our veterans and service members contribute greatly to Crowley’s success, because their experiences and perspectives translate so well to excelling at a high performing organization,” said Crowley’s Cole Cosgrove, executive sponsor of VERG and vice president, global ship management. “We appreciate the military-friendly recognition, and we understand it’s because of the hard work and dedication of our current and former military service men and women, who served our country and now deliver every day for our customers.”

“Companies that have earned this designation have invested in substantive programs to recruit, retain and advance veterans within their organizations,” said Josh Rosen, director of Military Friendly. “To them, hiring veterans isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s good for business.”

Crowley will be showcased along with other 2021 Military Friendly Employers in the December issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and on the website MilitaryFriendly.com.

“As a service member, having the opportunity to bring the skills we developed in defending our nation to our private sector careers is very gratifying. That’s why my colleagues and I at Crowley appreciate the company’s commitment to supporting veterans in our career development,” said Lee Gearing, a Navy Reserve Officer and former active duty service member, who is chairman of Crowley’s VERG.
