Governor Desantis took credit for sending two planes of Venezuelan migrants to Martha's Vineyard, an island in Massachusetts. He said he takes what is happening at the border seriously, and accused President Biden of failing to secure the border.
"We are not a sanctuary state, and it's better to be able to go to a sanctuary jurisdiction. And yes, we will help facilitate that transport for you to be able to go to greener pastures," the Governor said during a Thursday morning news conference.
Charlie Crist, the democratic nominee for Governor, said the decision made Desantis unqualified to lead.
"When you are this inhumane in how you treat human beings, you're not qualified to be governor of anything. It's so cold and so callous and so inhumane. It is unconscionable. It's just. It's vile. I can't believe it," Crist said, during a virtual news conference.
Venezuelans in Florida also critized the Governor's decision. The Program Director of the Venezuelan American Caucus said the Governor should not be using migrants as political pawns.
You cannot keep telling that Venezuela lives in a dictatorship with Nicolas Maduro and the Nicolas Maduro regime, that is cruel and is criminal, and then despise Venezuelan immigrants when they get here," Adelys Ferro said.
