Poll: While McCarthy’s “Commitment to America” Rollout Didn’t Move the Needle with Voters, Majority Support Its Core Principles

Proposals For Parental Bill of Rights and Increasing Domestic Oil and Gas Production Favored by Voters

(Austin, TX—September 29, 2022) Convention of States Action, in partnership with The Trafalgar Group—one of America’s most accurate pollsters in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2021—is releasing the results of a new national survey. Results were from surveys conducted September 23rd through September 25th of over 1,000 likely 2022 election voters.

“We found in these numbers a fascinating gap between style and substance. A few weeks ago, we asked voters if the GOP has done enough convincing to earn their vote, a majority said no. In this poll, we wanted to see if House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s ‘Commitment to America’ media rollout last week moved the needle for voters. It did not. The numbers are virtually identical,” said Mark Meckler, President of the Convention of States. “However, when we polled two of the key proposals in the ‘Commitment to America’–voters responded positively and showed support. Voters like what Republicans are proposing, they just don’t believe the GOP sells it well enough. Frankly, they just don’t believe that Republicans do what they say they will do. Whether Republicans convince voters of their sincerity and commitment to actually enacting the Commitment agenda–or not–in the next few weeks, will decide the election.”

KEY INSIGHT: McCarthy’s “Commitment to America” Speech Doesn’t Change Voter Perception on if GOP Deserves Support in Midterms:

  • 49.8 percent do not believe Republican Leader of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy made a strong enough case as to why Republicans should earn support in the 2022 midterm elections in his "Commitment to America" speech.

  • 33.9 percent of voters believe Republican Leader McCarthy made a strong enough case for Republicans to earn support in midterms. This matches the 33.9 percent polled earlier in September asking if the GOP had made a strong enough case to earn voters support.

  • 16.2 percent of voters say they are not sure if Republican Leader McCarthy made a strong enough case for Republicans to earn support in midterms.

KEY INSIGHT: Majority of Voters More Likely To Back A Candidate Who Supports the Republican Party’s ‘Parental Bill of Rights’ Legislation:

  • 55.1 percent of voters say they are more likely to vote for a candidate in the 2022 election who supports the Commitment to America agenda, that includes the ‘Parental Bill of Rights’ Legislation–granting parents the ability to see their children’s school curriculum and protect their child’s privacy.
    • 44.5 percent say they are much more likely
    • 10.6 percent say they are somewhat more likely

  • 44.9 percent of voters say they are less likely to vote for a candidate in the 2022 election who supports the Commitment to America agenda, that includes the ‘Parental Bill of Rights’ Legislation–granting parents the ability to see their children’s school curriculum and protect their child’s privacy.
    • 8.5 percent say they are somewhat less likely
    • 36.4 percent say they are not likely at all

    • 5.7 percent are somewhat less likely

Physicians for COS

The diagnosis is clear.

We have a growing cancer today known as the Obamacare. As a result physicians are no longer free to practice medicine.

No profession feels the full force of the federal government more than physicians. The medical profession is the most highly regulated profession in the United States. The practice of medicine is controlled, taxed, and regulated to the point of being destroyed by the heavy hand of the federal government.

Physicians are told how to bill, how much to charge, and how to treat patients. They are mandated to use expensive electronic medical records. The federally enacted HIPPA (Health Information Privacy and Portability Act) makes the communication between physicians and atients burdensome, inefficient, and expensive. Every physician is required by federal mandate to register with the government to obtain an NPI (national provider identifier.) We are required by federal law to obtain and pay for a license to prescribe medication through the DEA, which is separate from our state licensure.

This heavy hand of government not only oversees the largest federal health bureaucracy ever created, but by extension reaches into every state, every city, and every small town to regulate how every licensed physician practices the art of medicine and how citizens obtain care.

The treatment is also clear.

The prescription for a cure was written into our constitution by our founders. Article V of our constitution allows for the states to call for a convention of states to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government through the proposal of constitutional amendments. Physicians should be the strongest supporters of this brilliantly-crafted states’ rights tool placed into our constitution by our founders.

I urge my fellow American physicians to join with me in supporting an Article V Convention of States to take back control of the practice of medicine. It’s the only way that we can return the practice of medicine back to the intimate relationship between a doctor and patient without interference by the heavy hand of a distant, national government.
