Christian Reflections on Christian Nationalism

It seems the phrase “Christian nationalism” has become a rallying cry or a scapegoat, depending on who you ask. Christians have always been called to engage in the public square; however, methodologies of engagement have been hotly debated since the founding of the United States. In this current political climate, what does it mean to be a “Christian nationalist”? Is this a title Christians should embrace? Or shy away from?

In his white paper, Mark David Hall examines the popular writings advocating for Christian nationalism and offers his critique of this increasingly popular ideology.

“There is nothing wrong with loving one’s country, but it should be a properly ordered love that does not result in blind obedience. This proper love of country is best referred to as patriotism.”
