New Mexico 136 provides direct access to an area of the state that offers great potential for economic development, yet the pavement along this nine-mile corridor had reached its end of life and required significant upgrades – especially with the growing truck volume. The New Mexico DOT utilized a Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement overlay instead of a full reconstruction, which eliminated the removal and disposal of existing surface material and required a thinner overlay. This saved more than $20 million in reconstruction costs and provided a long-term solution for the next 30 years, keeping the economy moving and drivers safe.
