Rosanna Durruthy’s Post

As a leader, spouse and mother of two, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and a resident of Florida, I am deeply concerned about the anti-LGBTQ+ bills taking shape in my state, Texas, Michigan and across the U.S.   We condemn these bills that do nothing to build bridges to economic opportunities. In fact, they pose a danger to the very fabric of our economy by attempting to exclude the LGBTQ+ community. LinkedIn’s vision is about inclusive, economic opportunity for all, so that millions of LGBTQ+ workers who want to make a positive impact in the world can do just that.    Today we shared our support of the LGBTQ+ community along with the Human Rights Campaign and dozens of other businesses in an ad in the Dallas Morning News, taking a stand against Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s recent anti-trans initiatives in the state. I invite our LinkedIn community to standup for LGBTQ+ families and their right to make decisions to support their loved ones. #humanrights #HRC #lgbtqequality

In addition to Florida, Michigan, and Texas, I would also like to raise attention to a bill that recently passed in the Idaho House of Representatives that makes it a felony for anyone to give gender affirming care to a minor, punishable by a minimum sentence of live without parole. This includes relocating out of the state to provide such care. (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/idaho-trans-health-care-youth-bill-rcna19287) This is one of a large wave of legislation that is being pushed in states across the country. I'm proud for Microsoft and LinkedIn for taking a public LGBT stance, and I truly hope it is soon backed by more actions. In the meantime, the Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Legal, The National Center for Transgender Equality, the Trevor Project, and so many more could use your donations to help fight back against the marginalization and attempted elimination of LGBT people.

While I absolutely greatly appreciate these companies signing this and some executives speaking up, I’d like to see some companies start taking action in these states.

I agree that everyone should be welcomed and included. But have you actually looked at the bill(it’s 4 pages and in plain English)? It deals with only children in pre-k to 3rd grade or in the language of the bill, primary school being taught about sexual orientation or gender identity. I don’t know about you, but at that age I didn’t care about gender other than girls were icky. This bill also has roots in parents being told they have no say in what their child is being taught. Just my 2 cents.

Cool public statement. Quick question... why do all the hateful comments I keep reporting about how we (LGBTQIA+ people) are perverts, mentally ill, dangerous sex offenders, or disgusting sinners doomed to hell.....keep being reviewed by the Community Standards team and deigned completely fine and allowed to stay up. 🤷♂️

I’m French living in Scotland and was actually quite surprised to learn about that bill! Is Florida super queerphobic in general, or is it « just » that you have a super conservative government? Other than that… definitely! I think there is no healthy inclusive business without queer people, women, disabled people, people of color… And I’m « cis-straight-not disabled passing », people have no idea when they’re hiring me. But damn, we’re bringing SO MUCH to the table. And we exist. Our existence should not be silenced. No matter how old the kids are, they need to know that queer people exist. That disabled people exist. That people of color exist. Etc. They’re smart, they understand. Not talking about it forges them into thinking it’s a shame/ disgrace to be this way. It doesn’t protect anyone… it’s only giving more chances to be hateful discriminatory adults 🤷

It's important to know who's on this list and who's not. If your employer isn't on this list ask why not. The answer may encourage you to help them see why it's important or leave. I'm proud to work for a company Corning Incorporated that is on this list. I also plan to cross-reference this list as a consumer. I would suggest to shift your anger and effort to much more serious enemy for the whole humanity - anti-LGBT Putin. Democrats and Republicans must unite to help Ukraine to save the civilize world. I've LGBT friends and hear you. But now we must prevent much grater danger. Biden is literally supporting Putin personally banning transfer of Mig jets to Ukraine. Put some pressure on your senators-democrats to provide real support to Ukraine. https://www.thedailybeast.com/ukraines-gay-combat-volunteers-are-ready-to-fight-for-their-lives-against-anti-lgbtq-vladimir-putin

I too am deeply concerned about the political winds from the right side of the aisle in the Florida state legislature, my dear friend. I do trust that organizations like ACLU and like will challenge any signed legislature at both state and federal levels on their basic constitutionality and affront on civil rights. It is so unfortunate that people like Rick DeSantis have been elevated to positions of influence and impact such as the one he undeservedly holds, but rest assured that there will be a swift and unequivocal response to any attempts by him and his poitical allies to target basic civil rights of Floridians.
