RSLC Statement: Republican Brian Zahra Re-elected to Michigan Supreme Court

RSLC-JFI Made Six-Figure Investment to Hold Critical GOP Seat

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Brian Zahra last night was re-elected to the Michigan Supreme Court. His victory, which came despite Republicans being outspent 2:1 on television in state Supreme Court races, ensures that Democrats will not be able to expand their current 4-3 majority and gives the GOP a chance to change the balance of power on the Court in 2026.

“Michiganders made a statement last night by re-electing a principled conservative in Brian Zahra back to the state Supreme Court to push back against the radical liberal agenda,” said RSLC-JFI President Dee Duncan. “Justice Zahra’s win last night was critical, as it keeps alive an opportunity for Republicans to flip control of the court in 2026. The RSLC’s Judicial Fairness Initiative was proud to support Justice Zahra and congratulates him on this important victory.”

The Republican State Leadership Committee’s Judicial Fairness Initiative launched a $200,000 independent expenditure campaign in support of Zahra in the final days of the campaign. The committee’s investment in the race followed the plan it announced in February to push back on Eric Holder’s sue until its blue gerrymandering scheme by spending record resources in state Supreme Court races in key states where judges may play a role in the redistricting process throughout the decade. Michigan was one of RSLC-JFI’s four redistricting priority states.
