Retail Crime is rising. Tell Congress to act.
Organized retail crime (ORC), violence and theft continue to impact the retail industry at unprecedented rates. According to NRF’s 2023 National Retail Security Survey, retailers reported that all forms of theft accounted for nearly two-thirds (65%) of their shrink in 2022. Even more concerning, 67% of retailers also noted an increase in violence and aggression associated with ORC compared with the previous year.

Dramatic footage showing brazen criminals committing smash-and-grab robberies at retail stores has grabbed headlines across the country. These shocking crimes not only put employees and customers at risk — they also add to total shrink, costing the industry over $112 billion in 2022.

This rise in crime has caught the attention of policymakers in Washington. They are considering the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act, which would increase federal coordination with state and local law enforcement to fight retail crime.

We need all retail advocates to contact their representatives in Congress and ask them to support this bipartisan solution to fight retail crime.
