Stefan Schaffer

Stefan Schaffer provides policy and advocacy expertise to help cities advance their climate goals through initiatives to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the building and transportation sectors. Before joining NRDC, Schaffer served as chief resilience officer for the City of Chicago where he led the development of the city's first-ever resilience strategy to address key physical, social, and economic challenges. He crafted various policies on the sharing economy, transportation and mobility, and labor standards. Schaffer also worked on President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign and inauguration. Schaffer holds a bachelor's in biophysics from Brown University, a master's in biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is based in NRDC's Chicago office.
