The Perfect Home Project From Ornamental Moulding & Millwork Part One

I don’t know about you but being stuck at home was starting to get to me! Sure there are only so many little crafts you can do but why not take that a step further and update and entire room? You might be thinking this is way too much work, but really it’s not! Ornamental Moulding & Millwork offers pre-stained and ready to install molding that is simply beautiful!

Changing out your moulding can make a huge splash when it comes to totally changing the look of the room all together. Not to mention it is really easy to do.

Most of you know that my husband and I lost our home to a fire last spring so to get into a home we went with a Clayton Smart Home, which we do love, but there are still so many things we want to change and moulding was first on our list.

Moulding can really make or break a room, in my opinion. Since we have a farmhouse style in our home I went with the grey ceiling moulding and door moulding. I choose this because I think it brings a bit more character to the room than a classic white moulding.

Since this posting is so long I have broken it down into two posts, the second will be live here, showing you the ceiling moulding and installation.

To get started on your project you will need a couple of things. To remove the moulding all we needed was a knife, good blade, hammer, and pry bar. I used my mini pry bar for this project. My tools have been used for years so don’t mind how they look.

The first thing, of course, is to take down that old moulding which usually should be very simple to do. I took my time as to not take the paint off with it but you might want to make sure that you have a bit of touch up.

I first used the knife to score down the moulding.

Next, I used the blade and hammer to get behind the moulding and started to remove from the wall.

Just as on the closet door our moulding popped right off.

I decided to do all the doors first because for me being short this is the easiest to get done, plus it will give me a good idea of what the room will look like.

Once we had all the moulding down from the doors, it was time to start to put up the new moulding.

The next, step is where you will want to take your time. Make sure to double check your measurements. To put up the moulding around the doors we used a nail gun, compressor, saw, and since we are not changing the moulding on the floor a multi-tool.

Once we had our measurements we started to cut the new moulding for around the doors.

Next, we labeled each piece on the location and grabbed that nail gun.

We decided to use decorate blocks on the top of the doors because I really loved how this looked.
