Committee Expectations

The Economic Development Corporation was formed to coordinate and implement economic development activities of Kentwood. The EDC Board is appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Commission. All Board members are Kentwood residents or corporate residents representing a variety of businesses and industries. Meetings are held at 8 a.m. on the third Monday of each month. The EDC Board should be comprised of members with diverse backgrounds or interest in business, management, finance, real estate and law. Candidates for the Economic Development Corporation have an interest in the economic welfare of the City of Kentwood. Entrepreneurs with experience in starting a business in Michigan would be considered an asset to the EDC. Since the EDC also serves as the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, interest or background in environmental issues/science is desirable.

MEETING SCHEDULE AND TERM

The Economic Development Corporation meets monthly as needed. Members serve for six-year terms.

What the EDC Does

The EDC acts as a liaison to attract, retain and expand business within the Kentwood community. The Board members and their staff work with various branches of the government in enhancing resources that are available to businesses.
